Madeira is a beautiful Island, lovely scenery, flowers and walks. Casino Park is a lovely hotel with every amenity, great rooms and a classy restaurant. Huge choice at breakfast time.We ate out every night, there are some wonderful eating places, all nearby. The hotel is on a hill, about ten minutes out of the main town of Funchal and with interesting views of the port where the ocean going cruise ships come in. Thoroughly reccomend the hotel, the area and the whole island.

The Pestana Casino Park Hotel is just the best for a week away in November, why i say that is that we make the trip to Madeira every November and have never been let down with the weather.
The Hotel is one of the best we have stayed in we have a room that looks over the port of Madeira with views over the town, if you book ask for this side of the hotel, before we booked for the first time we read on tripadviser that there was road noise, we have never had this, we also go for an upgraded room and find them spacious with all what you get with a five star hotel.
On our first visit we stayed on Half Board but in November we found the everning meal being moved from the main restaurant to the smaller one near the bar, this being because most guests were on Bed and Breakfast, and this is what we do now as there's many places to eat near by, one of them being a Thai restaurant "one of the best".
We have been lucky to have used the pool on our trip something we didn't expect in November but the indoor pool is also to die for, its fantastic.
If you are going to Madeira then have no worries the Casino Park is Brilliant..

March 2010
This was our third stay in this hotel in 10 years and it was better than ever. located nearer to town than most of the funchal hotels, i have no hesitation in recommending it to visitors to this heavenly island of madeira.

STAFF; very friendly, professional and helpful, multi-lingual.

BREAKFAST; fabulous , ultra generous, champagne optional every morning.

LOCATION; nearer town than most hotels.10 /15 minute walk into town centre. very pleasant walk but very steep hill on way back to hotel. Great views of sea and port from garden/pool area. Free and beautiful park next to hotel with fab flowers, pond swans ,ducks, seating area (Parque Caterina)

ROOMS; very clean, cleaned daily, adequately spacious, powerful shower/bath.balcony

LOCAL PUBS/RESTAURANTS; strongly recommend Prince Albert pub just around the corner from hotel for drinks, inexpensive meals/drinks, t.v. football, and very friendly staff.
Also the really picturesque Casa Velha restaurant just around corner from hotel for excellent fish and evening meals (try the espada/scabbard fish flambee -fab).

HAIRDRESSER /BEAUTICIAN; surprisingly reasonable prices for hair and nail treatments in hotel hair salon.

SWIMMING POOLS; just gorgeous outdoor pool area and garden. indoor pool also available

we had a lovely time at a relatively quiet (pre-flower festival) Casino Park Hotel. We decided to go back to Madeira after a fleeting visit as part of our honeymoon cruise last easter (09). the hotel was excellent - being designed by world renowned achitect Oscar Neimeyer back in the late 60s / early 70s.
Fantastic restaurant, brilliant breakfasts in an awesome, light airy room overlooking the infinity pool, terrace and ocean. We had a brilliant sea view room on 5th floor affording outstanding views across Funchal, the Casino and the harbour. A very good, comfortable, modern room with a huge double bed (incredibly comfortable).
Very helpful staff (particularly at the poolside bar and lagoon terrace).
Interesting achitecturally this hotel celebrates the style of Neimeyer and associates with fantastic art, photos and sculpture.
The most relaxing aspect of this superb hotel (the location is unbeatable) is the spa area underneath the outside pool. It was very quiet during our stay and proved a very chilled out space to unwind - whilst still enjoying a warm swim, sauna, steam room and ice shower !
Overall very pleased...we would like to return soon.

We were transferred to The Pestana Casino Park after our original choice became unavailable. To start with, an upgrade from 4* to (so-called) 5* seemed great.

The hotel itself was fine, nothing spectacular and probably not 5* by UK standards. We had two rooms with a sea view, which was very nice. Cleanliness, especially in the bathroom was not brilliant. Breakfast was as expected. We chose to eat outside of the hotel for evening meals which led to the discovery of some great little restaurants in the side-street by the hotel.

The reception staff were polite, friendly and helpful. We had a few spa treatments, which were on the expensive side but really good and relaxing. The hotel itself is in a good location and near enough to walk to Funchal, though taxis were a popular choice on the return!

The main issue we had with the hotel was the clientel it seemed to attract. It was almost like an exclusive club, but one we most certainly didn't want to be a part of!! We will smile and greet people as we walk past as such greetings usually extend most languages, the majority of others did not extend the same courtesy.

Me and my whife visited the Casino Park a few weeks ago and had a really good stay at the hotel. The location of the hotel is as good as it get and the room was beautiful (junior suite i think it was called). The Sea view was fantastic and the room was large as a small appartment. Staff was very friendly and helpful, reception helped us with car rentals and other things. Breakfist was what you expect from a five star hotel, everything from pancakes to bacon, eggs and all sorts of bread and fresh fruit in a bundle. Indoor spa was really nice with different saunas, big pool etc, outdoor looked bigger in pictures than it really was. But in In short it was one of the best hotels we stayed at and we will stay there again if going to Madeira in the future. A few drabacks though: The beds was very firm, good if you have some weight i guess, but a bit woody if you are on the light side. The walls was thinn and noice from the room next door and above was quite clear. The guests was quite quitet though so we weren't disturbed. I dont think the clientel staying in the hotel is of the loud category of guests, -so not much of a problem....

If your staying in Funchal its absolutely worth a few bucks extra to stay at the casino park. We walked all over the city and most of the hotel is either in the city with a lot of noise, without any seaview or far from the city centre. Lot of hotels is around the Lido pool area and we didn't like that area at all. Quite dead except for a few turist restaurants... Casino park got both Sea veiw and 5 min walk to Funchal centre.

The hotel seemed untouched by the recent floods, although there were warnings to boil the water. Unfortunately, you could only do this by paying 6 Euros for the kettle (not that this was advertised): seemed a bit churlish for a 5* hotel.
Having said that, this proved a very good choice for a week of winter sun and chilling. Very central, with a tremendous sense of space, light and a well-stocked breakfast, the rooms were pretty good - quiet, clean and with plenty of space.
The public spaces are strikingly vast, but this does mean that it lacks some atmosphere - and sitting in the lobby bar was not always comfortable when a gale was blowing down the whole space because they insisted on having the main doors open!
The grounds were well-tended and manicured with great views over the sea and Funchal. Pools were pleasant too, but the only ones willing to brave the outside ones were the seagulls.
Would definitely consider using this hotel when returning to Madeira - it's much more pleasant than the Canaries!!
