Beautiful hotel. View from our room overlooked swimming pool and lots of colorful flowers. We had a very nice meal in the wine lodge and the grounds were very relaxing. The service of staff was generally very good especially Sergio (bar service) whom we made friends with. Only thing we found wrong was reps visit because we went on Thursday when normal change over day is Monday so we felt there was a lack of info regarding the area.

I is a really 4 stars hotel with very green territory and great location. There are few hotels even clothier to old town, but we didn’t like none of them. The front is beautiful, rooms quite simple, but clean. Enough extracts in bathroom. Balcony with table & chairs, where you can enjoy your evening wine. Two pools, but not enough sun beds at the sun (no problems if you like shadow). Hotels, which are located at the first line (have their own entrance to ocean) are too rocky and not so green, so Miramar was ideal for us. You can easily walk to Old town and to opposite tourist Lido area. To the right from the hotel entrance there is a very tasty ice-cream café (you can seat or you can take with you). You can use Pestana Carlton entrance to the ocean, but we preferred to go to Lido Complex (entrance fee 3.10 Euro, sun beds 2.70Euro). Near Lido entrance there is a very cheap supermarket Pingo Dolce. The glass of wine in the restaurant will cost you the price of whole bottle of the same wine in the Pingo Dolce. Didn’t eat at Miramar restaurants, but the breakfast was fine. The only thing I would recommend: each time we had a breakfast we were asked for our room number, despite the fact there was not many people at the hotel. It would be perfect if the personnel could remember the faces of their guests (it`s always pleasant), but not a big problem anyway. There are cooking facilities at the room, but we didn’t use them. We really liked the hotel, but were very surprised there were no young peoples there, but as I understand it’s a specific character of the whole island. Sad, but in my country (I`m from Ukraine) many people don’t even know about this island (except the Madera wine). It’s a great place and Madeira Tourist Government should attract young people too. I’m not the fun of nigh clubs or drunken teenagers, but such people won’t come to island, as they know it’s for another kind of activity: amazing levadas, great island tours, dolphin watching, unique architecture, etc. LOVE MADEIRA!!!!!!!

Just returned home after staying in a 2 bedroomed apartment for 6 nights. The apartment couldn't be faulted along with the 2 bedrooms it had 3 shower rooms (1 was a shower in a bathroom), and a sofa bed. The kitchenette was fine. The location was a good 10 - 15 minutes walk from the shops in Funchal, but that's all downhill and we took a taxi home twice. It cost 5 Euros for the taxi back. The worst thing about the hotel las to be the cost of drinks in the bars. Even with the bad exchange rate of sterling to euro aside 2.5 euros for a coffee and 4 euros for an orange drink was about the most we paid anywhere on the island. The happy hour ? ( from 5pm - 7pm) we felt was a bit of a con. They just gave a discount of 20 % on your drinks, and seeing the drinks were so expensive its hardly a wonder we were the only ones in the bar . We didn't return to drink there again !! The island appears to be lacking in tourists at the mement so the hotel was quiet anyway. All in all we would stay there again, but wouldn't buy any drinks from the bars. The attached restaurant Luigi's was good value.

Our second vist to Madeira at this time of year was made by this fabulous hotel. Actually it is 2 hotels - The Miramar and The Village - but they are interconnected on the same site and are effectively one and set amidst the most fabulous gardens. We stayed in the Miramar .There are sun beds all around the gardens as well as by the 2 pools, so you can relax anywhere. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The choice of restaurants offered excellent food, from a pizzeria to elegant dining in the Miramar. We took their "meal deal" which offered 3 meals (including wine and water) at any of the Pestana hotel restaurants. We will return!

We booked this hotel for a week in May for our 20th wedding anniversary. We stayed in one of the studios. The room was a good size with a bath/shower and full size fridge and microwave.
We were lucky to have one right on a corner so didn't get people walking by late at night and the design was such that we had no one above us. The gardens and layout is very attractive, not a high rise concrete block!! There was a huge choice for breakfast, which always tasted fresh. The hotel is situated on the edge of the hotel zone, it's about 15 minutes walk to the centre of Funchal down a hill, but we found if we cut through a park it didn't feel so bad.
If you walk through the centre to the old town theres some nice restaurants, not too badly priced.
We would highly recommend this hotel and hopefully will go back in a few years.

This is quite a modern hotel but it does have character. This is no concrete box but a well-designed hotel that fits into it's surroundings.

Most of Funchal's hotels are quite a way from the city centre. Sure, you can get a taxi or bus (the 7 day rover ticket is great value, as long as you can cope with the high-speed driving!) but having the option of walking in (about 10 mins) is a real plus for this hotel.

We had a junior suite. It was a bit more expensive but it meant that we had an extra room - handy as we had our 10 month old daughter with us! The mini-kitchen facilities in the room were brilliant (just a fridge, sink and double hob but they gave us freedom!)

The hotel's own restaurants are expensive but with the kitchen facilities and proximity to the city it doesn't matter. Breakfast was included and was an extensive buffet that set us up very well for the day!

The staff were all excellent and happy to assist.

The best thing I can say is that when we return to Funchal in a few years time, we will be looking to stay at this hotel again.

A very pleasant stay at the Miramar in a studio apartment. Room was very pleasant, balcony quite small. There are 2 pools, we just stayed at the Mirimat pool, availablity for sunbeds was quite tight later in the afternoons.

Thoroughly enjoyed holiday, great location - a 10 min easy walk into Funchal.

Reception staff very friendly. Pool side staff at Mirimar were very hard to find when you wanted an icecream!

Only really issue was invasive 'entertainment' that pestana seem to have in their resorts each night, at the Mirimar was outside and echoed around the hotel until the early hours!

Would definately revisit.
