This hotel has the perfect location in the centre of Funchal we enjoyed every moment of our stay, but not very happy that the hotels web site says that there is a bar ! not true, a large choice of bars are within yards of the hotel so it was not a problem, and we will stay here again

It is true to say this hotel helped to make our 5 day stay a great success. Pricewise it was excellent and the location was spot on; easy to find and right in the heart of the most charming, characterful section of Funchal. This was emphasised when we visited the 'hotel district', to the east of the town and found it a soulless concrete mess by contrast. Buses, shops and restaurants were all within very easy reach. The staff, without exception, were pleasant and helpful (loaned us cutlery for a picnic), the breakfasts were plentiful, with lots of healthy and filling options. The room, though compact, was clean and well equipped, and looked to have been recently updated. Our room had no view as such but we were able to use the roof terrace and we enjoyed a couple of peaceful evenings, watching the sun go down over the Cathedral and the bay, with a glass or three of wine. Great value and a great place, which we have no hesitation in recommending.

Room Tip: Check out the roof terrace

Great location being in the centre of the main town, right alongside the Cathedral and within 2 minutes walk of the harbour. Excellent budget hotel, very clean, bright rooms and friendly staff with all the usual amenities.. Don't be put off by the entrance however which is just the door alonside a small supermaket and you have to push the bell for admittance. I imagine the hotel is most popular with business travellers but we had a very good comfortable week there.

My wife and I spent 4 nights here in June 2010. We loved this place. The location in the city center was perfect for us. The ground floor of the hotel building has a Sa mini-market which was very convenient for us as we packed picnic lunches for our daily excursions. The room rates were inexpensive enough that we decided to book a "superior" room. We paid under 100 dollars/night, and it included breakfast. Breakfast was standard fare (but good and fresh): rolls, meats, cheeses, cereals, juices. They have a cook that will cook up eggs as you like. The room and bathroom were both spacious and we had a balcony with a table and two chairs overlooking the cathedral. The STYLE of the decoration in the rooms is a little dated, but the furnishings are in great shape, not old and shabby as might be misunderstood from other reviews. Our bathroom appeared to have been recently remodeled, as everything was quite new. Air conditioner worked great. The staff was outstanding. Very friendly and helpful. They do have a few parking spaces available, though they are a 5-10 minute walk away. The only downside is that there was no wifi available when we stayed there. We used free public wifi in Praca do Municipio located behind the hote.

The hotel was in a great location right in the heart of the town and opposite the Se Cathedral. The marina and harbour are just a short walk away. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the maid came in daily. Breakfast consisted of rolls, croissants, cheese, ham, cereal, yogurts, fruit and a hot breakfast of bacon, scrambled egg and cocktail hotdog sausages!! There was also as much tea, coffee, orange juice, etc as you wanted (this was important to us as we need several cups to get going in the morning!!). The reception staff were very helpful and spoke good english. We loved Madeira, the views and scenery are fantastic and the people were very friendly. We ate in various restaurants and did not have a bad meal in any of them and also found the prices to be reasonable. We would have no hesitation in staying again at this hotel if we were to return to Madeira

I'd read the reviews of this hotel on here and I'm pleased to say they were correct.

On arrival the hotel receptionist was most most helpful and friendly. Our room, a twin was well decorated, air-conditioned/heated, and clean. There was a flat screen TV with numerous channels. The bathroom was a little on the small side but perfectly adequate.

The location can't be faulted, in the centre of the old town opposite the cathedral and within walking distance of many restaurants, the workers market, parks and the cable car.

The buffet style breakfast was quite adequate, cereals, ham and cheese, bread rolls, toast, scrambled egg coffee etc.
If I go back to Funchal, I would definitely stay here again.

A good budget hotel situated right in the centre of the shopping district of Funchal with may shops and restaurants close by. The public areas of the hotel and our room were both spotlessly clean during our stay. The bathroom was a little small, ok it was tiny, but as long as you weren't having a party in there it was big enough for one, again very clean. Toiletries supplied and fresh towels every day.
The breakfast was passable, but avoid the scrambled eggs. Didn't look or taste like eggs! We visited just after the recent floods and the reception staff were friendly but didn't seem to know much about the changed transport plans that had been put in place, we wondered if they were Madeiran?. Maybe its more of a business hotel than a tourist hotel.
Overall a great place to stay in central Funchal.
