“Good location”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

We were in a pinch and needed a room fast. Went on Booking.com and fount this hotel.
As described, a good 3 star hotel. Rooms are basic but functional. Good water pressure and heat for the shower.
Very good buffet breakfast included.
Free wifi in the lounge is a good think.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
You get a little more than you pay for here!

Good location, excellent service, excellent value for money, very helpful staff. View to the sea and mountains. Situated in a quiet street downtown with almost no traffic at night. We stayed there three nights and will stay there again on our next trip to Funchal. And nice with the outdoor pool on the top floor.

Funchal is quite chaotic. This hotel is however well located: downtown but in a side street so that everything is at hand, but the traffic won't disturb you.

Building: a modern and insignificant 5-floor building with a 60's taste.

Facilities: very nice common areas with free wi-fi. On the roof there is a quite big swimming pool where you can relax after a hiking day and have a direct look on the ocean. It is a little dilapidated but still very enjoyable.

Rooms: acceptably big and confortable. Satellite TV.

Breakfast: OK

We have just spent a week in this excellent hotel. It's nothing fancy but it is good value, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are brilliant. Nothing was to much trouble for them during our stay, from the desk staff to the lady that cleaned our room every day they were all great. Breakfast was standard continental, plenty off it, fresh fruit, good range of breads etc but pretty much the same most days. It suited us just fine and we had no complaints other than the orange juice was out of a machine rather then fresh. There is free wireless in the reception/lounge area and it worked fine. The hotel is close to the cable car station, centre of town and the old part of the city, so is very handy for everything. The only complaint we could raise about the hotel would be that the decking around the roof top pool is in poor condition with a lot of loose boards which could do with some attention. We would certainly use this hotel again.

Room Tip: The best rooms seem to be on the fourth floor

This hotel is nothing fancy but you get what you pay for. The rooms are quite small and functional but reasonably clean. The common space is a bit bleak but who wants to spend their time inside a hotel anyway. There is free wifi internet in the lobby and the desk staff were happy to let me email my boarding pass to them to print out and to store some perishable food overnight in their kitchen fridge. The breakfast was good and the hotel is well placed in the town within walking distance of most of the local attractions. Overall it is a reasonable hotel that gets extra points for the very helpful staff.

This hotel is in a quiet side street in the center of Funchal, an easy stroll to most areas market, old town, sea front and cathedral area
Looks as though it has been refurbished. The bar, lounge and dining areas are clean and welcoming.
The reception staff friendly and helpful.
My bedroom was large with a balcony onto tree lined back streets. Beds were a bit soft and short. No kettle.
On the roof is an unheated pool and lots of lounging areas and despite being in the middle of town feels quiet and 'secluded' -- a good relaxing area after all that sightseeing.
Did not eat supper - too many other tempting restaurants nearby.
Breakfast was the usual adequate hot and cold buffet
All in all I liked this hotel and would definitely use it again in Finchal.

I stayed here as part of a tour of Madeira. The first night and last 2 nights were spent in this hotel. Although the outside of the hotel isn't appealing due to the narrow street, everything inside is good and there is a lovely little courtyard to sit in with your evening drinks. The service from all the staff was totally flawless, more the level expected for 5 star prices rather than 3 star. I would go back just to meet the staff again!
