Returning to Maderia for the eighth year in a row we thought we would try something different as we usually stay at a large hotel. The comments on trip advisor were the persuading factor in trying something different. We were allocated room two which was next door to the restaurant, at the end of the hotel next to the very busy road and near a private dwelling that had a dog who appeared to spend most of the time barking. The location of the room did not give us the peace and quiet the hotel portrays. The outside swimming pool is smaller than portrayed in the brochure and again the traffic from the adjacent main route into the centre of Funchal spoiled any attempt to enjoy the surroundings. On the Saturday evening it rained heavily leading to leaves and birds feathers in the outside pool - no attempt was made to clean the pool. A word of warning to anybody considering a spa treatment - check what the treatment entails as a cellulite massage is extremely painful and led to me experiencing significant bruising and pain to my body - no pre treatment health enquiry is made which is concerning!
On the plus side the hotel is very clean and the breakfasts cooked to order far exceed the larger hotels we have previously stayed at.More
