The hotel is well positioned overlooking Funchal in a pleasant situation with large attractive and well maintained gardens providing a peaceful and relaxing setting.
Two very good restaurants provide varied menus with a good choice of wines.

We visited the hotel last September for two weeks and enjoyed our stay so much that we’ve just come back from another week and are already working out when we can pay a further visit. The island itself is lovely – fantastic scenery, welcoming and clean and coming back to the Bela Vista is the perfect way to unwind after a hectic day’s walk along the many levadas.

The ambience is incredibly relaxing, the room well appointed, choice of food excellent (especially in the a la Carte restaurant) and nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff, who go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The hotel is ideally situated, on a hill, high enough above the centre of Funchal so as to be quiet but only a short ride away by either taxi or complimentary bus service. The large gardens add an air of tranquillity, walking to breakfast, listening to the birds singing in the treetops and stopping to admire the wonderful variety of flowers.

If ever a hotel deserved a commendation and five stars, this is it.

This is just such a beautiful hotel. The gardens are outstanding and the views of Funchal fabulous. Being away from the centre of town makes for a quiet location. Dining is fine but like most top class Madira hotels not cheap. An evening meal in the old Quinta is a must. Serive and ambience are first class
The courtesy bus back and forth to Funchal promenade is really useful although a taxi comes in at about 6 euro.

I visited this hotel with my 83-year old mother - her first proper holiday for 19 years. During much of that time she had been a tireless full-time carer for my ailing father who died last autumn. I had been planning this visit for many years. Nothing about the Quinta da Bela Vista disappointed. Everything that I had read about the hotel (which had lead me to expect comfortable quality) was as I had believed it would be. Our room (a Superior Balcony Twin) had a wonderful view over the garden; swimming pool; part of the Funchal city vista and glimpses of the sea - we spent many sessions sitting on our south facing balcony in perfect sunshine as well as more hours on loungers beside the pool. Our activities were limited by my mother's age and physical abilities but we visited a number of attractive gardens (I was brave enough to hire a car at the airport, the local driving conditions are, perhaps, not for the faint-hearted!) and seaside villages. The staff were SO friendly and helpful; how many places have you heard of a receptionist responding to an SOS from a couple of ageing guests, who had got lost on the way from the airport and were concerned about the approaching dusk, by getting in her OWN car to effect a rescue? A wonderful start as far as the hotel's service was concerned, which continued throughout our visit. Unfortunately my mother is unable to cope with eating dinner at a 'normal' time so we were unable to sample the delights of an evening meal at the hotel - breakfast was, however, extremely good and my mouth watered at dinner time at the thought of what I might have been missing, even though I had eaten elsewhere in the late afternoon! If you visit this hotel be prepared to feel as though you are being looked after by friends. I had been attracted to a holiday on Madeira because of the lovely weather and the promise of botanical interest and beauty; we experienced both - and SO much more.

Very good for a relaxing stay. Beautiful hotel. Lovely communal areas, dining and sitting rooms, with gorgeous antiques and fresh flowers at every turn. The breakfast was excellent too. A short bus or taxi journey from town the hotel is very conveniently located.
