This is a small ,comfortable, clean hotel with friendly and efficient staff who made us feel very welcome and at home. At first we were concerned that the hotel was off from a busy road junction but this was never a problem for us and indeed we grew to like its location as it is just 20minutes to the town centre one way and about the same to the Lido area and promenade walk the other way. Even better, a host of quality restaurants all within 5/10 minutes of the hotel and an easy walk there and back(not always easy to find in Funchal/Madeira) We did not have a bad meal or poor service in any of the restaurants and we would certainly recommend you try different ones. Our favourites were Mar Brando and Vincentes(beside the Hole in One a lively pub)where we enjoyed the suckling pig and also rabbit from their menu. The Chalet did a magnificent Chateaubriand and the Red Lion excellent lamb chops and fish dishes. The hotel food served on the terrace was excellent for light lunches and a snack. Drinks also are served on the terrace very refreshing after your day out. Tea and Coffee facilities were available in our room, you only needed to ask at the bar for fresh milk. The hotel has character(we were in the original building) with lovely wooden floors which not unexpectedly did creak as did the bed. Part of the charm. The maids kept the room and the en suite absolutely spotless . The gardens and the pool and poolside area were all very well maintained and relaxing. To sum up,a very well run charming small ,friendly hotel which we will definitely revisit. Madeira is a beautiful island and you must venture round the island to appreciate its beauty and its dramatic scenery. We are so glad we found the Perestrello.

The hotel is lovely & the staff all extremely helpful & efficient. Ideal location with just a 15-20 mins walk into the town centre one way & to the Lido area the other way. Also a frequent bus service with bus stops just outside the hotel. Just a few things to point out. The hotel is on a fairly busy road & if you have a room with a balcony facing the front, then there is quite a bit of traffic noise. Nothing to spoil things, but I think it's good to be aware of this. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, which is a shame. We did have a word with a member of staff & she gave us a kettle - it's always nice to be able to have an early morning cup of tea in bed or on the balcony!! A small fridge in the room would be nice too but I can understand if they don't want to do that. Lots of very nice restaurants very near to the hotel, with an extremely good Italian just next door. Would definitely recommend the hotel.

we stayed here 2nd until 16th September and what a lovely place The building is full of charm ,the staff friendly and polite Our room had a terrace but unfortunately was in shade all day due to a hedge and trees so we didn't use it much The room and bathroom were excellent and kept beautifully clean the only downside was the lumpy pillows ! We could have had somewhere to dry wet swimwear other than the chairs on the terrace or the shower rail but that is a minor blip We had some lunches here and the food was good but ate out as there were so many restaurants It's about 20 mins downtown where we can recommend O Regional and O Romano A bit nearer but going towards town we enjoyed the Kontiki where we ate twice ,the Red Lion and The Chalet Going towards the lido we ate at the Atlantic twice plus Luigis pasta next door to the hotel was good To be fair there were so many within 10 to 20 mins The pool was small but adequate for the size of the hotel and the gardens were pretty

Room Tip: Terrace by the pool or a balcony room

Stayed here from 2 to 16 September 2013 and we were thouroughly spoiled by the whole experience. The staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Mannerly too - the reception staff would stand when you approached, give you their full attention and smilingly assist. We had a room fronting the garden on the pool level which was very comfortable (pillows a bit strange, felt as though they were stuffed with cotton-wool balls!) but slept well. The breakfast was good, varied and plentiful and snacks were available until 23.00hrs, as was the bar. Pool a reasonable size and well maintained. Internet access on their computer in the corridor available any time - just ask. Convenient for the centre as has been mentioned before. Cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Funchal and will stay there again when next in Madeira. Wonderful.

Room Tip: Try the lower level with french windows onto the pool/garden.

Arrived in Funchal and wanted to spend a couple of days chilling out before touring the island by car. This was perfect. Lovely room, balcony, pool and not a child in sight. Breakfast was good and the hotel staff were very helpful. Wi-fi only available in the reception area, but difficult to connect if others were using their laptops/tablets/iphones.
