On arrival I wondered if this location would be noisy but was on level 4 with a sea view and set back from the road, so no noise, however if you wander up to the area above the main pool(quite cold) you get a nice view especially of the lovely trees etc. Pool guy late in putting loungers out and over eager to bring in by 7pm, (poor mangement there) although we were mostly out and about during the day and then used the indoor pool which we mostly had to ourselves.Room really clean, Fatima did a great job with a smile. Location good for buses. Thomson rep useless for someone who's lived there 8yrs. Get a mini bus for the East Tour (not thomsons or strawberry world) further up on the same side as hotel. Also good wine shop there.Antonio was fun, great day out.Lunch in the old part really nice and Taj Mahal restaurant well worth a visit.Don't go to Sun City restaurant across the road no matter how tired you are..Can't comment on meals as either cooked ourselves or went out. Visit the Forum shopping centre if youv'e seen enough of the usual touristiy shops. Overall a great holiday.

Room Tip: level 4. We had 624 i think with corner sea view and no noise. level 3 had bigger balcony area, mayb...

I stayed here 7th.to 14th.May this year,on recommendation by a friend, and was not disappointed.I travelled with two of my sisters,we had three twin rooms for sole use;10th.floor at rear of hotel, just as we had requested on booking. This was great-it was away from any road noise, and had a view over a sweet little church/school,where the nuns and children sat in the garden on the sunday and sang beautifully. Thomson has this hotel at 3 star+,and I think this is fair.It is clean, has friendly efficient staff (hello Paulo in the dining room!),suberb food in quality and choice,(we were half board),little extras such as welcome tea/coffee making facilities in the room (you keep the kettle, but pay to replenish tea etc.after the first day-I just bought a small jar of Nescafe from supermarket),and welcome bottle of water provided first day also. However, the hotel is definitely now ready for refurbishment,to bring it back to its official 4star status, the furnishings are worn and tired-but we knew this before we went, and of course it would mean the price would have to increase. All in all,a lovely stay, and it met our expectations.Madeira is beautiful.May I also add my recommendations to other reviewers for the tours/outings at Strawberry World, right next door to hotel entrance,we did two with them, and couldn't fault them at all! Superb guides, drivers, coaches and itineries-and half the price of the Thomson trips.

Room Tip: High floors are quieter

Just arrived back from a four night stay golf tour. The hotels position is a good walk to the old town but there are plenty of restaurants and bars much closer, the taxi rank is just outside the hotel and fares are relatively cheap. The reception is clean although very dark and the greeting was warm and efficient. The rooms are bigger than most and the beds are definitely more comfortable than one could normally expect at similar hotels. I only ate once at the hotel and I have no complaints, a good standard. The outside pool is very pleasant with a great view and food and drink was always close to hand. Drinks downstairs in the bar were very cheap for a hotel and once again the staff were very friendly. All in all I had a enjoyable stay, I would definitely go back to Funchal and I would seriously consider returning to the Monumental

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the front of the hotel for the best views.

Four Views was 4 star except in the Thomson book which down graded it to 3, which was about right. Food was plenty full, aways 2 fish and 2 meat, salads, veg, fruit and loads of deserts. Brek was very good, also plenty of variety. In the LIdo area so near to most things. No beach only 1 man made one on island but not in Lido area. Evening entertainment was very low key and a bit disapointing. Staff were friendly and hotel seemed clean although very dark. Main residents were older Germans. Can vouch for the vodca's which were huge! A pleasant enough week though very expensive with travel agents as all the book prices are hundreds more than printed.

Room Tip: We paid £6 a night more for a sea view which we enjoyed, though our room was dated. Loved the balco...

I have just come back from here today and we have had a great time, the hotel is nice and clean and the staff are great. As we were self catering i can not tell you anything about the food. Ok the beds are not very comfortable but are room was HUGE with two balconies, with sea views on both. Its a nice walk from the hotel to the centre and there are lots of restaurants nearby.

Although some reviews have been a little harsh about aspects of this hotel I found it very very good. The location was good and from our room located on the 9th Floor we had views of the sea and the swimming pool immediately below.

The food was as good as any I have had at a 4 star hotel with an excellent Dinner Menu, with many options available, and although the Breakfasts did not change dramatically from day to day, I was not disappointed with the selection of foods available.

Although our room could have been more up to date it had everything we required and I could not fault the cleanliness.

The evening entertainment, of which I am not a big fan, was very enjoyable and added to the holiday experience.

On the down side expecting to have to pay for use of a safe is not acceptable.

All in all it was an excellent experience and if we go to Madeira again I would have no hesitation about revisiting the Four Views Monumental

My Wife and I have just returned from 2 weeks in Funchal and we found the Four Views to be a very good and well run hotel. It was always very clean and nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. As written elsewhere there is some Traffic noise on lower floors but it is not too bad. The food was adequate. Overall we enjoyed the experience very much and will definitely return.

Room Tip: Funchal is a very hilly place so anyone with walking problems should seek advice.
