“Very relaxing break.”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

We have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing break at The Enotel Lido in Funchal.

Flight - flight time from Manchester was 3hrs 20 mins, we flew with strategic airlines ( on behalf of jet2) No complaints, timely and in relative comfort.

Transfer - I booked a private transfer with Resorthoppa, there was 6 of us in a little mini bus, our driver from 'your e motion' was there at the airport and offered lots of insight on our way to the hotel.

Hotel is slightly out of town in the Lido area, it takes around 40 mins to walk into the centre. Hotel was fantastically clean, room was spacious too with fresh water left in your mini fridge every day. Breakfast was great with a good selection to choose from. Lunch can either be taken in the main buffet or better still at the pool bar where you can choose off the menu. At 3 pm every day the pool bar offers a hot buffet but to be honest, it's not very hot, you are better to order what you want off the menu. Evening meals can be be taken in one of the speciality restaurants (you need to book in advance) or at the main buffet... Sorry, but the buffet was not up to scratch... The food was like warm and wasn't good quality! We ate out just across the road a couple of nights and had a couple of really good meals!

Out and about... We did a canyoning trip one morning and I can honestly say I haven't laughed so much in a long time, our group was mixed ages but none of us struggled... But be prepared to get wet! The cable cars are also worth a trip, then come down in the baskets... Great fun. We also did a full day around the west of the island, Miquel at 'your e motion' organised this for us, it worked out cheaper than the big bus tours and we got a personal service, plus our guide was a trained mountain guide so knew all about every kind of fauna and flora, brilliant!

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable trip, would recommend to all!

Nice clean hotel with friendly staff. My mum and I spent a week at this hotel. Unfortunately, when we arrived our room was not ready, what is not want you want to hear after a long journey with a very early start. But after a couple of hours wait, we were in. Large clean room and very quiet. Personally I am not keen on buffet dining, although I have to admit that the selection was very good and the bread and butter pudding was delicious. Our best meal was in the Japanese themed restaurant; great fun watching the chef at work with delicious and healthy results. The evening entertainment passed the time and there was a good selection of drinks. Overall I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again myself.

This was our 7th visit to Madeira,so we are familiar with its culture etc;if,like us you are looking for value for money, then this hotel is for you.
We requested a quiet room and were given a suite with a balcony so large we could have played 5 a side!
Housekeeping was very good;beds firm and comfortable.
Food was good but not brilliant, however,no one will starve because there is plenty of choice;the themed restaurants are good.
Public areas are excellent with the exception of the dining room which, although clean and efficiently run, looks a bit tired.
Evening entertainment was the usual standard;fair or poor depending on how many drinks you had managed to have before 21.30!
All in all a very good value for money holiday, certainly not 5 star, but a very good 4 star;we hope to return again next year.

Room Tip: request a room on left side of hotel looking out to sea

We have just spent a week in April at this hotel, for our Aniversary and both birthdays. Although the hotel was advised of special occasions by booking agency, these days were ignored.(no special treatment as we have had from various other 4* hotels.( The room was very spacious and lovely view, but cleaning was not thorough ( had to ask for toilet rolls) cups not washed, unless we left in bathroom by sink. The bathroom floor was not washed at all whilst we were there. The buffet breakfast was very good, but lunchtime and dinner time, hot servery food was cold, and not much different on any day.
On a positive note, evening entertainment every night was good, and all-inclusive drinks and cocktails great.
*Tip. if you hire a car they did'nt deliver, so cost us an extra 20 euros to airport and back, we used Hertz. maybe other companies do deliver and collect.

We spent a week here in April 2012 with our 3 young adult children. We had a suite with a sea view, and they had a triple superior room. We had an excellent holiday, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the all inclusive did not make you feel like a 2nd class citizen. The food was always good but sometimes a little boring, but then again I think most Madeiran/Portuguese food is quite plain. Coffee and house red wine not great, but these are minor things really. Also the 3rd bed in the triple room was portable and not ideal for my 17 year old son, but he managed. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have a great outlook to the sea. I would choose a room that also faced in to the p...
