We are staying at the Enotel Lido and find our accommodation first class, the staff are excellent (nothing too much trouble, the hotel is quiet of an evening and could not be called noisy in daytime. The food is wonderful with the chefs doing justice to escofier. There is a problem with Wi fi but one of the young girls is at the moment sorting this out. The gym is good as is the indoor pool tried them both before breakfast. in all if you want an excellent inclusive holiday.......give the Enotel Lido
A try you will not regret it.
PS the reception staff are great ask for Rita if she can't do it nobody can

Best Regards

Nice hotel, very good check in experience, staff pleasant but some in restaurant absent minded. Food in main restaurant only just warm but very difficult to cater for so many, themed restaurants excellent with nice touch of entertainment in the maderia themed restaurant.
Be prepared for the French guests who push in to any queue and take over the place (not all of them some really polite)
Would still recommend you give it a go
Try the Lavada walks with Maderia explorers, you will get a good packed lunch from the hotel
Hotel needs to review its wifi policy of charging extortionate price for wifi access, use the cafe on the sea front

Room Tip: Floor five or above

When we arrived we found everything exactly as described. The reception was quick and friendly, all the reception staff were fluent in English, French and German and even understood ironic humour.
A rapid explanation of the layout of the hotel and what we were to expect then followed and we were handed our key cards and off we went. Our room was on the first floor with a "partial sea view" which was true if you stood on the balcony and looked to the right. In hindsight we would not pay an additional £80 for that! the balcony overlooked the main outside seating area for the ground floor restaurant and sports bar and gave us a really good view of the pool area. The room itself was fantastic, large, airy (efficient aircon too) and immaculate. The ensuite had a small issue with the toilet but again was immaculate and well proportioned.
The hotel, we understand, is the only one on the island that is "all inclusive" and gave a wide range of food choices from themed restaurants (that you have to book a sitting for), to a large main restaurant and then the smaller ground floor restaurant. Food and drink were constantly on tap from burgers and hot dogs to really excellent Japanese food cooked in front of you. Breakfasts had continental, full cooked, fresh fruit, a large range of breads through to porridge! We also saw guests having alcohol with their breakfast.
There were plenty of well trained, very friendly staff around who were extremely attentive and in fact you had to very quickly learn to say no otherwise your glass or cup were constantly being topped up. If you were on a day trip around the island you could even ask for a packed lunch which always fed twice as many people as you had asked for.
The gym, pool area, spa, indoor pool, games room, lounges and meeting rooms were all well presented - the worst niggle was blown light bulbs in odd areas which is really trying to pick fault!
the hotel had a quite well stocked library with books in English being in the majority and a very small gift and souvenir shop where you could get a limited number of UK papers.

If all you want to do on holiday is arrive, chill out and be totally looked after then this is the place to be. If you want to see the island too then they are very good at sorting that out for you as well, the centre of Funchal is only a 10-15 minute walk away and the old part of the city is a further 5 minutes on. As echoed by other reviewers we were quite surprised by the numbers of elderly guests and this then was reflected through to the evening entertainment - we listened to three different renditions of Boney M "by the rivers of Babylon" in one week.

Beware the timeshare! they try to dress it up as something different. We were approached twice and politely declined both times and that was that. Other islands and other hotels can be very pushy but except for the obvious lie were not a problem here.

Would we go back? yes we would except that we need a little time to recover from the overindulgence!

Room Tip: try to get into a room further along the two wings

just back 23rd may great place to relax and enjoy a beautiful country. Good hotel but did feel we were in a residential home due to age of guests. It was still a somewhere we would choose to go again though.
Spotlessly clean, good food I'm vegetarian and eat fish so there was no problem lots of choice.
The room was a good size and very clean no mildew around the bath or shower.
Lots of sun beds and brollies to sit under by the pool.
All inclusive package Champagne with breakfast each morning, and named brand drinks available.
The hotel is 5 star but does need a bit more to bring it up to this we thought, such as more waiters by the pool, the dinning room floor needed attention and the carpet in there needed a clean, also there was a hole in the flooring by a servery.
The entertainment was hit and miss 'cabaret' evening was good but apart from a traditional evening not so good.
The spa looked lovely but expensive. As is the internet.
Staff all really good and helpful.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea view but ours was on the side overlooking a road and the sea. Ask for pool and se...

Jasper We stayed 2 weeks at the Enotel in May 2014, had a fabulous time.
We booked with Jet2.com. and we have nothing but praise for the service they provided.
The hotel is quite modern, bright, clean and spacious.
The room we were allocated was satisfactory but on the ninth floor of ten, at busy times of the day the two lifts on each side of the building were inadequate for the number of guests.
In the main restaurant you were shown to an available table each mealtime, if you were near the large window where the wine and cutlery were kept, the service was very good, however, if you were further away, the service was not so good.
There was a wide variety of food which was excellent.
The only criticism is, the tables are laid too close together in diagonal rows, which meant while you were eating, other diners had to brush past your chair to get to their tables, sometimes knocking your chair.
The pool area was nicely laid out,a large number of sunbeds, although these were uncomfortable and the noisiest ever, a smallish but big enough pool.
In one corner was the sports and snack bar, open from 10-30am, the food and service from both were very good.
There was a indoor pool, spa and well equipped gym, that opened each morning at 8-00am
except week ends and bank holidays when they open at 10-00am!, It appears the hotel is run on these days for the benefit of the staff and not the guests!.
The reception area and bar were bright, lovely furnished and comfortable, the staff pleasant and helpful.
A weird site occurred several times a day! ill shaped zombie like figures, shuffled around the pool area at a snail like pace, in white ill fitting dressing gowns and flip flops, it looked as if this was their exercise period, they were very clever juggling a drink, cigarette, some reading, some mumbling and slavering while being issued with their daily medication.
We renamed it "The one foot in the grave sanatorium".
The one thing that stops this hotel being rated a 5 star is the dress code, guests especially at mealtimes wearing scruffy jeans and trainers.
All in all, Funchal and Madeira is a beautiful place, we went on the cable cars and toboggan
at Monte, what an experience!
We hope to visit Madeira and the Enhotel again,
Until then, Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a lower floor, if you are able, you can walk the stairs when the lifts are busy.

I stayed here in August 2013 and would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in great surroundings. I can't offer a review from the perspective of a family or a young adult (though it is definitely not a club 18-30 type place - one of the great benefits for me!) but for our party, who wanted to do a mixture of lying by the pool, swimming in the sea, and going on local excursions, it was brilliant. The hotel was clean and well kept and there were plenty of sun beds, though not all had parasols. People did the usual of reserving beds with towels so we joined in. Unlike some hotels, there wasn't incessant loud music banging out all day by the pool.

The food was pretty good but not brilliant. There was a good variety, including loads of amazing deserts, and always something being freshly cooked at the hatch, but the meat was consistently gristly and this one aspect has to be put down as a minus point. In a 5 star hotel I would expect a better quality of meat. I was also slightly disturbed to see the cooks using their hands, which had just broken open lots of raw eggs, and were therefore covered in raw egg, to pick up pancakes which were then to be served. That's the point at which I stopped eating the pancakes...

A really good point was that there was lovely food available all day from bars by the pool. The sports bar had food in all night so if you were peckish at any time there was something available, including some really nice cake. The all-inclusive alcoholic drinks were also good as it wasn't just limited to a handful of local, disgusting drinks, like some cheapskate all-inclusives, but a huge variety, and you could have as much as you wanted at any time.

The evening entertainment was pretty good, inside and out, and people would be up dancing.

The local area was not particularly exciting, though you could get to the sea very quickly and swim out to pontoons and walk to some local shops and restaurants. It was not far, however, to the nearest town by bus or taxi, and here there was more to see and also the cable car that takes you up to places such as the lovely gardens and provides a great way to see over the area. We did the slide down the streets in baskets thing, which was ok and two of our group went out on a catamaran and enjoyed that, and there are various other excursions available.

All in all it was a wonderful holiday and I would go back to that hotel any day, despite having "done" Funchal, because I know that the hotel experience completely suited me for the purposes of a relaxing holiday.

I agree with a previous review it is spot the under 50's hotel and found out that was partly due to saga as it seems to have a hand in this hotel don't know details but there are a lot of older people.
It is a nice clean friendly helpful hotel and I would say you won't be disappointed with the surroundings. Down side dining an absolute joke men have to wear trousers for dinner as it is a "5 star restaurant" women wear what they want. As for the food quality definitely not 5 star (reids italian restaurant is 5 star no comparison and you can wear shorts) the dining room stinks of a mixture of smells in quite a small buffet area like an oversized cafe. It's repetitive and poor quality and vegetarians forget it only on 1 day was there 1 main veggie option available. Fed up with cold chips or hard potatoes and salad that on 1 day the cucumber was very slimey we ate out for the rest of the week. Breakfast same every day and if you get down too late it's not refreshed it's tough hash browns cold pancakes gone hard. Internet oh dear never heard of being charged 22 euros a day or 88 euros for the week shockingly expensive for a 5 star go to the cafe at bottom of hotel buy a coffee and get it free. Room spotless maids excellent polite friendly cannot fault this at all a bonus would be to offer a beer in the mini bar but small gripe. Spa amazing although no one in there apart from ourselves slightly overpriced in comparisons to other hotels I have stayed in but very nice. Indoor pool not open to guests which I find disappointing as madeira does have rain and must leave guests with very little to do. You can only use if in the spa and paid for a treatment and then you do have to wear a swimhat or buy one extra again I say really is that 5 star service. We did approach rep in hotel to book one of the 3 restaurants in hotel but cancelled due to the fact the only time we could get was 9 o clock and decided to eat earlier and then found out it didn't even open that night.
To summarise a lovely 5 star hotel but not 5star throughout and definitely for the older person who wants peace and quiet all the time.
