We have been staying at the Royal Savoy for a number of years and have always enjoyed our 2 weeks. The standard of accommodation is high, rooms are comfortable, well furnished and equipped. The hotel has a restaurant that serves an evening A La Carte menu or Chef's recommendation, which can be less expensive, together with some themed evening meals. There is usually evening entertainment in the bar area should you want to enjoy the show. Staff are welcoming and friendly, pool facilities are excellent and directly adjacent the sea so views are very good. It is a relatively short walk from the hotel into Funchal, downhill all the way but remember the climb back up. However bear in mind you are on holiday so there's no rush and if you prefer, taxi's are plentiful and not particularly expensive.
There are many good restaurants in the Funchal area with prices to suit all budgets and well worth trying as a change from hotel dining. At one time there was the opportunity of sharing facilities with the Classic Savoy which adjoined the Royal Savoy via a bridge, but the hotel was demolished several years ago and remains a hole in the ground while its future is determined.
The Royal Savoy is a first rate hotel, worthy of its 5 star rating, good location and one to which we shall be returning.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea view, higher the room the better the view.

We stay in the Royal Savoy Hotel every year and really enjoy it. The overall standard of the hotel is very high in every respect both inside and out especially the external restaurants and the pool facilities. The staff always welcome us back and make us feel very special. We've seen other hotels on the Island but we think the Royal Savoy takes some beating; consistently excellent quality in every respect.

Heather and Roger Wing

Room Tip: Junior suites are the best value for money and rooms located looking towards the harbour have the most attractive views, though all views are wonderful.

Just back from another holiday at the Royal Savoy hotel and again can't wait to return. Room was ready even though we were early. Greeted like old friends by reception and Maria and the doormen. Our junior suite was completely refurbished and we love the furniture that is familiar and welcoming. Room staff as always exceptional and cheerful . As we are older and unable to cope with large buffets (albeit Beautiful and varied) there is a varied A La Carte menu at reasonable prices and the dining room staff especially Miguel will always go the extra mile to accommadate us.The same applies to the outside terrace where we enjoy lovely lunches served with 5 star detail .Deck chairs, comfortable mattresses and umbrellas with supportive pool boys all help to give us a glorious relaxing holiday.Support from member's office 100%.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea and lovely views

Spent last week of March there. Good location with walking distance to town, shops, restaurants etc. Recommend not eating or drinking in hotel as it is very expensive and food not very good in our opinion. Even walked out of Buffet Night after starter as couldn't find anything else on buffet that was halfway decent. Restaurant Central in Canico only 10 minutes away will send car to pick up and drop off customers of 4 or more (excellent restaurant). Found hotel clean and maid service good. Not much English TV. Most staff professional and friendly, however asked young man at reception to mail postcards to UK and USA but none of them received???
Probably would not stay there again.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for making the Royal Savoy Hotel your preference and for taking the time to post a review of your stay on this website. We fully agree, one of the main benefits of our hotel is its prime location; situated on the oceanfront and just a short walk away from the city centre’s many beautiful and historical museums and buildings, colourful city gardens, bustling Marina, Municipal Theatre, city squares adored with outdoor cafes and esplanades, shopping centres and many more interesting places for our visitors to explore.

We were sorry to read that on this occasion we failed to impress you on the buffet night. Food quality and service is exactly the area which we should and do normally excel in. However, please accept our apologies for your disappointment and assure you that your observations will be used in a constructive manner, allowing us the valuable opportunity to rectify problems and help us to continue to work towards excellence. As for the prices we charge in our restaurant and bars, you will find that our prices compare very similar to those charged at the other five-star hotels in Funchal and in the local good restaurants.

Having made further enquiries with our reception team regarding the mail of your postcards, we inform that normal procedure was followed; our post is collected on a daily basis (weekdays) and can only conclude that sometimes there are postal delays. Hopefully, your cards have since reached their destination.

Overall, we were indeed very pleased to read that you found the hotel clean and also our maid service made a positive impact to your stay. Thank you ever so much for your kind comments regarding our team; being professional and friendly. It is always a pleasure to receive such feedback and of course this will be shared with everyone here.

We do hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back again.

Our best wishes for a Happy Easter.

My husband and I have just returned from the Royal Savoy and certainly want to be back. From the moment we arrived everything was just lovely. A happy cheerful greeting from the doorman, a friendly fast and professional check in and what lovely accommodation, we had room 1902 and would recommend to anyone. From the balcony on floor 9 you have a lovely view of the pools and the ocean, to the left is that cruise ship port. There were three in port whilst we were there. To the right you have a view of Reid's and other hotels. The suite had everything you could want and was kept spotlessly clean by our lovely housekeeper. We were half board, and whilst the food was well presented and prepared, I think next time I will consider B & B, because there is so much choice close to the hotel and down in the town itself. Breakfast was plentiful, with lots of choice, be sure to try a freshly made omelette. If you need shopping there is a small supermarket close by, use the bridge over the road accessible from 8 th floor, and then walk through through gardens, use your hotel room card to open the gate and turn left, within two minutes you will be there. It's only small but has the essentials. Some reviews talk about poor wi fi access, I think this has been upgraded and had no problems all week. Remember the hotel is half way up a steep hill, which you can climb or if not there are plentiful taxis ( not that expensive) or try Tuk Tuk (5 euros) from the promenade. We love this hotel and will be sure to return. This time of year it's frequented by people of a certain age (not many under 50) but this added to the experience for us. No drunks or yobs, just people having a fun time without spoiling it for others. Try this hotel, we don't think anyone would be disappointed, but would suggest you try for a room on higher floors, to make the most of the tremendous views.

Room Tip: High floors for the views, but remember all facilities on Floor 0 or 1
