We have just returned from our 2nd visit to this truly excellent, contemporary hotel. The rooms which all have stunning ocean views are quiet, spacious and very clean. All the members of staff are very friendly, courteous and extremely helpful at all times. The buffet breakfast is impressive with so many choices, both hot and cold and is very well presented.

A superb hotel in a nice location and ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Definitely worth a visit!

I am English and my wife German and we live in Germany. We booked at short notice via a German Travel Agent. This was our 4th trip to Madeira over a period of 35 years and the hotel was new to us. It is in a lovely setting perched on a Lava Cliff overlooking the sea with nice views. There is a Bus stop within 50yds of the hotel and a journey of about 2miles into the centre of Funchal with a bus every few minutes. There is also a promenade at the bottom of the cliff which is ideal for short walks.
It is Table Service for a 5 course evening meal 1900-2200hrs with a selection for each course. The service was excellent, food well presented and the staff very friendly. Mainly British and German tourists of a mature age.

A really good hotel with all rooms overlooking the sea and as a consequence has no road noise. We stayed in room 501, the only niggle with the room was the speaker above our room on the roof garden which woke us with streamed muzak. A Word with reception sorted that without fuss. Did not eat in the Hotel other than breakfasts as the evening menu looked overly fussy. Plenty of good restaurants a short walk away. The other thing that put us off eating in the Hotel was the terrible live entertainment rolled out on some evenings. The only other niggle was the lack of WiFi access in the hotel which should be standard fare in a four star. There is WiFi on the Lido and in the nearby shopping mall. I had no problems parking as the Hotel was quiet, in busier times parking would be an issue as it is limited. As a whole the Hotel is a good package and I would recommend it.

From the second we arrived there was nothing that was too much trouble for the incredible staff at this lovely hotel.

The breakfasts are indeed, as you will see from all the other reviews, quite spectacular - you are good for the rest of the day after that! The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and the housekeeping was efficient and thorough. I was there for my birthday, although we didn't tell the staff that - we saw no reason to. However, they either noticed my date of birth on my passport (that was left with them at reception) or our housekeeper saw the cards up and mentioned it to her colleagues, because when we got back to our room later that day there was a birthday cake waiting for me on the side!

Our experience at Regency Cliff and Madeira in general was such a positive one, that on the morning of our return flight, half an hour before we were due to leave for the airport, we decided to stay on! So we got on the internet, changed our flight, and stayed for another 5 days! We were lucky enough to keep our same room aswell which was a 'Superior' and we got them down to 80 euros a night.

We enjoyed being that little bit out of town - the Regency is to the West of the city centre - we found the centre a tad too commercial for us. Not in a kiss me quick way, there is certainly none of that on Madeira, but amenities close by the hotel had a more 'local' feel to them. For some reason the huge cruise ships that come and go on a daily basis are quite fascinating. They generate a lot of excitement (revenue) and you find yourself being swept along with it. It is quite a sight when you draw back your (blackout - bliss!) curtains to see the new ship of the day advancing to port.

The only downfall if there has to be one was the live entertainment in the evenings in the hotel restaurant. This was the reason we didn't eat there in the evenings - we found that to be a little too intrusive. But other people seemed to enjoy it - it just wasn't for us.

Another negative would have to be the Timeshare Hawkers in Funchal. There are quite a lot of them. Just say no! We got nabbed and ended up attending a presentation - more out of curiosity than anything - but it is time consuming and not what you want to do when on holiday, really!

We thoroughly recommend this hotel and would love to return - and probably will, although we are not the type of holiday-makers who go to the same place twice!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel during the last week in November 2009. We got a bargain price for a package through Thomsons and were delighted with the hotel. It is small enough to be friendly but large enough to have good facilities. The breakfast buffet (hot and cold) had everything you can imagine on offer and the terrace setting overlooking Funchal is perfect. The small indoor (heated) and outdoor pool are lovely, and we had the small gym and steam room to ourselves most nights. The hotel is quiet with very grown up live entertainment (jazz sax player, violinist, singing duo etc). Staff are extremely helpful. Although the hotel is about a 1 hour leisurely walk from Funcahl town centre there are very frequent buses (and courtesy taxis twice a day) in and out so this was not a problem at all. A very good hotel for a quiet, relaxing holiday.
