“Very pleasant hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2010

Visit started well by the hotel upgrading us to a suite! Very pleasant and well equipped rooms, with a sea view and good size balcony. Staff were extremely helpful and polite. Breakfast was usual buffet; not outstanding, but adequate. We only ate lunch once in the hotel and weren't very impressed (again, nothing awful, but not worth repeating).

Overall a very enjoyable stay in an above average hotel.

A week's holiday with elderly parents/parents-in-law both in their 70s. Father was waiting for a knee replacement operation so limited amount of walking. Hotel was situated some distance from the main town centre, but there was a regular bus service/ample taxis available. Hotel was clean, bedrooms clean and staff very helpful. Breakfast on the veranda was lovely and the view was excellent. Stayed B&B and there was plenty of choice of food and of good quality.
Eating out in Funchal was rather expensive, even if you ate the set menu meals. The best area for food was in the 'old town'. There was plenty to see and do in the main town and the trip on the cable car was well worth it. The basket ride down to the bottom (or halfway) was expensive - 25 Euros each. Would go back!

The Regency Cliff is an excellent hotel in a great position,
Great breakfasts, great service and a lovely restaurant with sea view.
Room was nice, with a balcony and beautiful panoramic view.
The hotel is in an ideal position, a nice walk to the main town, but plenty of shops, restaurents etc nearby.

We wanted a quiet and peaceful hotel for couples and we got it. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room had a fantastic sea view.
We were half board and the food was excellent with great service. There are 2 pools one outdoor which although small, was absolutely fine for a leisurely swim and one indoor one where there are glass windows along one wall looking out onto the area with loungers, that was very tranquil.
It is on the outskirts of Funchal but that is not a problem as getting into Funchal was incredibly easy, the hotel offers a free shuttle which takes about 10 minutes [often it was a taxi] there are also regular buses or the walk is very pleasant and takes around 40 mins to an hour depending on how often you meandre and stop to look at shops and the views!
This is not a hotel for children but perfect for adults who want peace and quiet. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely go back there if ever I return to Madeira.

This was our second visit to the hotel which in itself is good recommendation. The biggest attraction has to be that it's small (only 59 rooms) and you actually feel like you're genuinely being made to feel welcome. We had a spacious and comfortable room with a wonderful view of the sea. The staff are very friendly and attentive and nothing was ever too much trouble. The buffet breakfast is also one of the high points with stacks of excellent food and choices for everyone. It's a bit off the beaten track away from the hustle and bustle of Funchal (another attraction in our view) but there's a very good local bus service and plenty of taxis. We would certainly stay again if going to Madeira.

Just back from 2 weeks staying at this hotel in July and it was superb. All rooms face towards the sea not the road. Breakfast was a smorgasbord of food and even included champagne ! - served on a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea. It also offered free access to the Internet, discounted 5 day bus passes and a porter for suitcases. The pools were small but clean and the sunbathing area had palm trees and soothing music. The staff were very friendly, knowledgable and ALL had very good English - the food was fantastic. What more can I say - I would highly recommend it to all except young families as there is no children's pool.

This was our first trip to Madeira and (a) we would definitely come back to Madeira and (b) definitely come back to this hotel. Very helpful reception staff helping us organise local bus trips and levada walks. Lovely location - access to the very regular bus service to Funchal (approx 10 min journey) but far enough out to be away from the tourist bustle. Rooms spacious and kept very clean and all have sea views but no premium price for this. Quiet at night, walking access to numerous restaurants. Breakfast on the terrace with a wide selection. Plenty of local restaurants but easy to hop on a bus to funchal for restaurants there. A lovely hotel we would strongly recommend.
