“would definitely book to go back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2014

Good free hotel shuttle bus to town and also enjoyable walk if you are fit. Excellent friendly and helpful staff. Food, restaurant staff and Christmas Eve gala dinner all faultless. Indoor pool lovely and good tennis court - though this is an extra charge. Rooms comfortable - maybe bathrooms ready for minor refurb but that is the only minor thing that the hotel needs to do; everything else is perfect and we will certainly return as we had a most enjoyable 2 weeks.

Room Tip: We asked for quiet rooms with sunny balcony and were pleased to have these allocated.

I stayed in this hotel before joining a cruise ship for work the next day. Our agents had booked it on my behalf so had no choice but ot stay here.

The road leading to the hotel was a little nerv racking but once in the hotel was very well presented. Bright airy reception area and a quick check in process. Got my room key and stayed just down the corridor fro Reception (2nd floor if I remember correctly). The room was tastfully decorated - newly refurbished - modern and very clean. Then I pulled back the sheer curtains to see such a beatiful view outside over the bay of Funchal - breathtaking...

I did not eat at the hotel and we went into the harbour area for steak on the stone, taxi fare was reasonable!

Certainly a place to stay (especially if your going for the new years fire works display).

The position sold this hotel to us and we were not disappointed. The sea view is a must if you enjoy something different to look at any moment, a constantly changing scene!
Previous comments about the quality of standard breakfast requirements were grossly exaggerated. The statement about no bread at breakfast was proved wrong when we counted seven different varieties plus white & brown toasting slices. Staff were always friendly and achieved their goal of making our stay enjoyable. The shuttle into Funchal was a bonus but the no. 45 bus stopped outside for all other occasions. The free wi-fi was temperamental and only available in the lobby, but it was free!! All in all a good hotel for the cost.

If the bed is good (quality linens and great mattress) and the bathroom is also good (bright, clean, and plenty of towels)....then the hotel has done it's job for me! But add to that the view, the service....delicious food, and hospital level of cleanliness...and you have a true winner!

Free internet wifi connection in many of the public areas and the room TV has a wide range of international stations...so what's not to love?! Nothing!

We stayed in the hotel for 7 nights and had a wonderful time.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and decorated to a high standard. All the staff were very friendly and helpful especially a reception lady called Irene, who went to a lot of trouble to sort out local bus times and numbers for us.
The free shuttle bus is excellent and the driver is so smart, helpful and smells wonderful. It stops at 6.15 from Funchal, but the local bus stops right outside the hotel entrance.
Its on a steep hill, but we managed to get up and down without difficulty. Fantastic views from the walk back from town.
The hotel manager is very helpful and has customer satisfaction very high on his list of priorities. We couldn't ask for more.
Breakfast was excellent. So much choice and good quality food. Eggs cooked to order and no limits on quantity. One reviewer said "no bread" - I saw 7 types of bread every day. 9 including sliced bread for toasting.
If ever I was to go back to Madeira, I would be extremely happy to return to this hotel. Well done to everyone involved in the running of it - we appreciate all your hard work. xx

Room Tip: Some reviewers have said about barking dogs - they are quiet at night and the hotel entertainment fi...

Firstly to start with the room. Great facilities, cable tv, bathroom and also a balcony overseeing great views. This also has wifi access.
Breakfast was really good and you can eat outside with a great view to the sea. The hotel has a person that will make you an omelette which is a nice touch! A good slection on the breakfast menu.
The relaxing areas by the pool are good too.
I would say that it would be better if use of the sauna was also included in the price and also if there was more equipment in the gym, but then again most holiday makers would not go on holiday and use the gym anyway.
The hotel also runs a shuttle bus to and from the centre of funchal, which is like a 7-10 minute drive. There is a bus that stops outside the hotel which is the number 45, it costs 1Euro and 90 cents.
Overall I would go here again, I love the area too, its nice and quiet!

Fantastic hotel with breath taking views in a brilliant location. Obviously it is extremely hilly wherever you go, but easy 10minute walk downhill to local bars/restaurants/beach front but obviously harder walk back up!! We found this hotel great, our room was on the top floor with a back view (not sea view) but was very happy with everything. (does not have tea/coffee facility so need to take your own). There is a shuttle bus to take you into funchal (about 15 minute drive) and local bus which stops right outside hotel. Excursions: we did natural west, enchanting east (full days), heart of madeira (1/2 day) all fantastic with regards to scenery and getting to see the island. We also did Monte and Magnolias (1/2 day) cable car ride and palace - great views in the cable car but with hindsight would just take the cable car ride myself instead of the excursion as it would be cheaper! Did not get to use majority of the hotel's facilities, but would definitely stay here again when I next come to do some of the walking tours, it's a brilliant base and hotel.

Room Tip: Sea views are very nice but the back rooms give you more privacy whilst sat out chilling!!
