He have booked for 10 days. All the staff have been so helpful and welcoming. My husband is a coeliac and they have gone out of their way to accommodate him. Doing gluten free bread and preparing anything on the menu to be gluten free. Nothing is too much trouble. We booked a sea view room and have a lovely view of the sea and mountains and funchal. Will definitely return

This place is fantastic for a very peaceful and relaxing holiday. The hotel is in a great position overlooking all of Funchal. It seems a long walk into the main town but if you have all day, there’s no rush and once you get to know your way, it’s not as far as it seems. There is a free shuttle bus down into town every hour and taxis only cost around €6/7 back. The rooms are lovely and big and clean, the only downside for us were the beds, they are rock hard. Fab views from every room. There was never a problem getting sun beds anytime of the day, nobody saves them. All of the hotel staff were extremely friendly and really helpful, never been anywhere where they were so lovely. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We had a lovely holiday here - we were made extremely welcome, everything was done with great attention to detail & efficiency - the staff were pleasant without exception, the room comfortable with outstanding views, the buffet restaurant gave quality & variety, the cocktail bar (with happy hour every day!!) was friendly & relaxed - everything just right for a great holiday! Can highly recommend!

Room Tip: Ask for room 311 - the view is magnificent

Had a lovely stay, staff were very helpful couldn't do enough. It was my birthday and on arrival back from a day out there was a bottle of bubbly and card in the room from the management. Would definitely go back

Room Tip: Get a sea view if you can

There was no tea and coffee in the room - this has to be ordered in advance, and you pay 7.5 euros for one week. We had to wait 2 days because there were not enough tea sets available.

Only one set of towels provided for a twin room with two occupants. Pool towels not provided either, until requested.

There was an additional charge for the safe.

A few dozen m&ms were found behind the dressing table when I moved it because I'd also dropped something behind it... chambermaid dealt with it next day.

The ramp access to the outdoor pool was blocked with a stack of sunbed cushions, so my friend had to help a disabled lady to navigate the stairs!

On the transfer bus, we were told that the tap water was perfectly safe to drink. However, when we asked for tap water at dinner, the head waiter told us we had to buy a bottle because the tap water would make us sick!

The air conditioning didn't work. When I asked at the desk for maintenance to come, they told me that the system was centrally set to heat rather than cool air for the season, and it couldn't be changed.

The evening meal was over-priced for what it was. It is best to eat in the town. However, the courtesy bus doesn't run in the evening, so you need to add the cost of taxi there and back to the price of your meal.

Average age of guests 55 I'd say.

Evening entertainment - felt like we'd walked into the day room of an old folks home - didn't stay to listen to the musician's 1.5 hour set on a little portable bontempi organ...

Rep was nice. Hotel was clean (apart from the m&ms) and we made the most of it... wouldn't go back, or recommend it.
