We recently stayed at the lince hotel in Madeira , it is ideally situated in the hotel district opposite the lido and close to many restaurants and shops. The hop on hop off buses stop just across the road
The reception area of the hotel is light and airy and there are comfy seats and a bar
The staff are very polite and attentive and all speak English
The hotel room was spacious , immaculately clean , there was a balcony and our room had a fantastic sea view . The ensuite was well equipped. Towels were changed every day even though we didn't need them to be changed so frequently .
The bed was extremely comfortable and very large
There is a gym that I didn't frequent and there is a small rooftop pool and sunbathing area . The bar by the pool wasn't manned while we were there in November but you can ring for someone should you need a drink
We did have breakfast in the hotel which was served buffet style , hot and cold items ,breads, meats ,fruit , cheese and yoghurt which were readily refreshed . A selection of teas, coffee, fruit juice and hot chocolate were available . The food was fresh and beautifully prepared .
We didn't eat lunch or evening meal in the hotel as there were so many local eateries.

The only downside were the carpets on the landings , they were stained as if they had had building work done aand the carpets hadnt been cleaned . We heard that the hotel maybe in dispute with the cleaning company .
On the whole I would recommend this hotel , nothing is too much trouble , in fact on our first day we came into a complimentary platter of fresh fruit and a bottle of water. It was my birthday while we were there and they left us an ice bucket with champagne .More
