From our arrival at the hotel our stay was excellent. All the staff were very attentive and were always on hand to assist and always made time to talk. The hotel was extremely clean throughout. The facilities first class especially the roof top sun area (with jacuzzi) the view of Funchal was breath taking. The evening entertainment was acceptable albeit a bit repetitive. The waiters and waitresses were always cheerful. We stayed on the forth floor and used the lift quite a lot which was very quick. Our room was very comfortable and it was so nice to have a carpeted floor rather than cold tiles. Our bed was enormous! The buffet food was very varied and there was usually a theme each night e.g. Flavours of Madeira / Italy. Breakfast was good too my husband particularly enjoyed the omelettes which were prepared with his favourite ingredients. We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this hotel or indeed Madeira itself and cannot wait for a return trip

Room Tip: Opt for sea view and a higher room if possible as the view you will get is breath taking

We have just spent a week in May 2012 at the Savoy Gardens in funchal - our one mistake was not to spend a fortnight there. it was wonderful. Lovely large room with a balcony and sea view, Delicious food in the restaurant - it is said to be like "Cruising on land" and the evening buffets were based on a different country each night. The entertainment team were so friendly and good at their jobs.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are lovely

Stayed here for a week in May. We had a a sea facing room on the sixth floor - the views were great. The bedroom was as good as you can get for a holiday hotel with a four star rating, lots af space and all the additions expected like sattellite TV etc. The main restaurant is buffet style offering a different "theme" each evening with a good selection of quality dishes. For a hotel of this standard we found the wine list to have a reasonable selection of Portuegese wines all at very reasonable prices - you cannot complain of a house wine at e14 (£11.50)!
All the staff were proffesionals through from reception to the restraurant
The big bonus is no screaming kids nor their obnoxious parents
This is an hotel we would strongly recommend to friends
However there are always a downside - the steep approach, this hotel is not on the flat

Room Tip: High up sea view

stayed for 1 week in August 2011 , Fabulous Hotel, good entertainment team, cracking activities especially sunbed areobics. Hotel staff all very friendly, thomson team worked very hard.
The Rooms very classy, piped music in bathrooms, food excellent , would definately return
The hotel is situated on a steep hill so you have to be fit or you can get a taxi up fpr a few euro.
Maderia is a beautiful island with spectacular views.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are larger

A four night stay at this hotel was fully enjoyable and there are no downsides at all: wonderful sea view rooms, excellent breakfast catering for every need, wonderful staff, very helpful with suggestions for trips around the beautiful island, nice pool, nice surrounding gardens and ammenities.

Room Tip: Higher floor sea view rooms are recommended.

Praise of the Hotel is justified and I agree with other guest comments. Just 2 issues which put me off returning to the hotel. No free WiFi. They provide free internet connection on one computer. Why not free WiFi? I could get it at a cafe just down the road and went there for drinks instead of at the hotel. Their loss! The price of wine at dinner was too expensive. I could buy good local wine for 3 or 4 euros but the hotel charged 17 or 18 euros for wine at dinner. This was prohibitive and many guests were not drinking at dinner when I feel sure they would have had the pricing been reasonable. I did complain to the Rep and hope my complaint was noted.

Room Tip: Sea view high floor is best.

recently stayed at the savoy gardens on half board basis. food is really bland with little choice.
went out to eat in the end.had cake one night that was still almost frozen .
rooms at rear all overlook venting fans which run 24hours and are very noisy forcing us to keep windows closed.

Room Tip: pay for sea view as rooms at the rear look over the venting fans which mean you have to keep windows...
