“Superb hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

Returned from this hotel on 11 August after having a wonderful holiday. Hotel excellent. Very clean. Bedrooms are spacious and must be well soundproofed as we never heard neighbours either side of us. Usually you can hear toilets being flushed or opening and shutting of drawers etc. we were in room 603. Towels were provided to use in the pool and there was sufficient room by the pool or on the spacious sunroof. Entertainment was very good by the 4 people all in their 20s. One evening there was a Madeiran family to entertain us and people from the audience could join in with their dancing. Good fun. Food was excellent. Plenty to choose from. It would have been nice however if a cup of tea or coffee could have been provided to finish off dinner. There was also a games room with darts, table tennis, pool and a number of other games. All in all excellent.

Room Tip: We had a room with a sea view which was great, don't know about the ones with mountain view as n...

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Hotel Savoy Gardens , it has to be said that this hotel, is the best hotel we have stayed in for many years . everything that the other reviews have said about this hotel are correct, We had a room on the first floor and it was a lovely size with a large double bed , also a very handy fridge, All of the Hotel staff extremely helpful and went the extra mile when required. The food in the hotel was of a very high quality . and the entertainment staff also very good, Domino the resident duo very good, but Adele and Stephan must be seen to be believed, were excellent, They also organised the walks around Funchal , well worth going on as they are good fun. We will be re-booking and returning to Hotel Savoy Gardens.

Tony & Marion.

Stopped at the Savoy Gardens 4th August 2014, and what a lovely hotel. On arrival the staff were helpful and very friendly, our room was spotless a with a very big bed, lovely fluff towels.
The room was cleaned every day to a high standard. Food was lovely with a good selection, highly recommend the salad bar. The hotel was an adult only hotel and ages varied from about a quarter were 25/35. the rest I would say 40 up wards
The Pool was area was lovely and the roof terrace was a great sun trap.with huge sun beds.
Entertainment was very good, Lisa and dom due Domino were good and very friendly, Adele had an amazing voice, and then there was Stephen who liked to chat and did a great night on his guitar and harmonica, Judith as the information rep was great and had a great knowledge of of the area.As did all the reps. All The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful, It was about a 25 minute walk to the town centre, and cost 6 Euros for a taxi back. The Old town was lovely with its painted doors, and the toboggan ride is a much. All in all a great Holiday Madeira its self was lovely and green yes very steep hills but the scenery made up for it.Just bring comfortable shoes.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room as theses had the biggest veranda

Easily the BEST hotel I've ever stayed in, I can't fault anything, Rooms, food, service, entertainment all first class, I'll definitely be back.
The hotel is a 10 minute bus ride from Funchal, the local bus (route 24) passes hotel every half hour, at 1 euro 90 each way, better to purchase them from reception as this saves time buying on bus, also drivers don't carry much change.

Room Tip: 90% of rooms are seaview

Returned from the Savoy Gardens on Aug 11th 2014 and cannot praise the place enough (we stayed in room 203 with a sea view).
The Hotel is immaculate and the pool is especially clean. The staff all work very hard and are very friendly.
They prefer you to put all drinks etc on a tab and pay at the end, don't let this put you off they are not trying to rip you off!!!. The food is great and plenty of choice.
The Thomson staff were very good and work very very hard. They take you on walks around places near the hotel and there is no charge. Paula is very knowledgable and nothing seems too much trouble. The entertainment team are good and they try to suit most tastes and they suited us.
The city of Funchal is quite majestic and there is plenty to see. The market is fabulous and try the rooftop cafe for a coffee/toastie or even the small cafe in the corner on the basement good food and coffee and helpful staff.
There are some superb bars and cafe's hidden so you need to explore. Sit and listen to the quartet outside the ritz playing all kinds of tunes !!
The cable car is a great way to explore the gardens at Monte and don't be frightened to have a go on the toboggans they are great fun.
Near to the hotel is a pub called the white house which is superb and the staff great. Drinks are very cheap and they keep bringing you free nuts and crisps with every round!!
The hole in one pub is also good with live music as well.

We only stayed a week but it is no where near enough so we are going to return next year for 2 weeks and explore some more.

Obrigado Savoy gardens :-)

Room Tip: Sea view and you get free safe big enough for a laptop. Free wifi and a fridge.

On arrival Hotel was well presented with a friendly reception. We had a large suite that was spacious and very clean. The bed was huge and comfortable. bathroom had all facilities including hair dryer. There was a bath/shower and bidet. Plenty of towels and dressing gowns provided. Mini bar was available but you had to request it be filled on arrival. There was a lounge with a couple of loungers. The Balcony was L Shaped being a corner suite and had a table four chairs and two sun loungers. There was a canopy above the sliding doors for privacy from the terrace above. The downside of the room was the Air Conditioning was old and not peforming ats it should. The Hotel did agree it was in need of replacement (Room 701). The Restaurant was again clean with mostly excellent staff. One or two male waiters were not as friendly. Breakfast was plentiful with a choice of fried or cold cuts. Half board customers get an evening meal which was for the most partwas good. Occasionally the meats were tough. There is a reasonable choice of wine. Swimming pool was large and surroundined by sun loungers. These were busy but not full. There were two bars and cocktails were available from both. Entertainment in downstairs bar was goodr but depending on where you sat the view was obstructed by pillars and generally only manned by one waiter. Hotel is for over 18's only and the majority of customers were couples.

Room Tip: Would recommend top corner suites as these gave adequate space to spread out and were generally quie...

Great hotel and staff. We spent two weeks at this hotel and had a lovely time. Just two small gripes which were beyond the hotels control. From other reviews I'd read about the dogs barking in the local neighbourhood.... I have to say this was absolutely the case and it did get on my nerves. The second is the steepness of the hills.... You really need to be a mountain goat ! Other than this the hotel was exceptionally good. Well done Hotel Savoy.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor for best views.
