Fresh, beautifully cooked food served simply but deliciously. Warm service by friendly owners and staff. Very well worth a visit - try the limpets and the divine octopus. We plan to come back!

Just a short walk eastward out of the Old Town in Funchal, Madeira my wife and I came across a delightful little family run restaurant/bar on the corner where three roads meet and you can watch the world go by. We had a drink at a table outside but returned later for an impromptu lunch because of the welcome we received. The food was fresh and very tasty. My wife had an outstanding, succulent tuna on a skewer for 9 euros and I had beef on a natural laurel skewer, which gives added flavour but is difficult to find these days in other Madeiran restaurants. The chips were hand-made and seasoned with a touch of garlic and herbs and side dishes of corn cubes and broad beans were very tasty indeed. Inside, the restaurant has natural stone walls on which are exhibited large artistic photographs of Madeira taken by one of the brothers who owns the restaurant and is also an artist and photographer. The small kitchen is very clean and you can see family members cooking from where you sit at rustic white-painted wooden tables and chairs. Several items on the menu can be ordered as full or half portions, which is ideal if you only want a light lunch or snack. They also offer a taste before you eat service!

At the beginning of July 2014 we were staying just 2 minutes walk from this Restaurant and after the first night we didn't go anywhere else. Yes lots of lovely fish but because my husband is not a great fish or garlic lover the chef cooked him a special meat dish for his last night meal. Great food and very welcoming family and staff. Will visit again when in Madeira.
