After a lively e-mail conversation we were offered the upper suite
apartment.
It is very modern and comfortable. So new that there are no pictures on the
wall yet.
And a couple of brackets on the wall or the back of the doors should be
nice, although there is plenty of storing room.
It was very nice to stay there.
Coming home after a tiring day the rooms are brought in order ( your night
dress is draped on your bed in a very artistic way .And you can refresh
yourself under a marvelous shower.
.The location is fine when you rent a car. And when you don’t, there is
enough public transport available on short distance. You can get even a taxi
on call to bring you to town for just 7 or 8 euros. on the most.
The gardens are well looked after by Felomena´s husband, until late in
the evening!
We thank Felomena and her staff for the pleasant stay .We can recommend it
to anybody who prefers a quiet environment with a nice sea view.

Tips. shopping center "forum de Madeira" is easy to rerached by bus (24) you also have good restaurants on the topfloor.

First of all I most say that we had high expectations based upon the previous reviews at Tripadvisor, and in many ways Casa Papagoia delivered.

Starting with the positives the owner (Filomena) welcomed us with a glass of wine and gave us a small tour of the house. She is very nice. The day after we met Nyara who helped us with what to do around the island. Also a very nice girl. Our favorite was however the maid (it annoyes us that we did not catch her name). She must me one of the most charming girl we have ever met and makes a killer scramble egg! Hope to see you at Kapp Verde some day! :)

The main house it self is cosy and the breakfast area is worth getting up to. The organic breakfast is something I will remember for a while ( I belive most of what we ate was from the garden (what a lovely idea).

To be honest I have been dreading this review since I feel that the staff are so great. I must however be honest and also tell the bad. I get the feeling the the previous bad reviews are coming from guests that have been living in the same seperate apartmenthouse we lived in. This two floor apartment is the most expensive of the rooms/apartments and the homepage gives you an impression that this is the best room they have. Well, this is not true. After getting to know the other guest we quickly realised that we had the most outdated apartment. Small things like a distinguished smell (like it has not been used for a while), no heating (everything was very cold), no livingroom table (which made us only use the upstairs part of the aparment) and no internet connection (I had to work, but couldn`t) and though a beautiful sea view - we woke up from construction work and dogs each morning (cant blame the dogs, they where lovely at day time). The worst part most of been the fact that this is a self catering apartment, but the kitchen fascilities are simply to bad to make you want to make anything there. We where glad we where offered breakfast in the mornings, though we got a slight shock when receiving a bill for this later. (please inform future guest of this).

I do not wish to scare people off from this Bed and breakfast, because it really is a nice place to stay. Please just remember to ask for one of the newer Studio`s by the pool.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for your comment and compliments regarding our friendly staff. They are very grateful for your kind words and would like you to know that it was an absolute pleasure having you at the Casa Papagaio. Our aim is to make our guests as comfortable as possible in order for them to have a pleasant stay.

We appreciate your comment regarding the Apartment that you stayed in, and have since made some changes including adding a small table next to the sofa in the lounge area and improving the kitchenette area, in order to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to have the Wi-Fi in the Apartments, but we continue to have this service in the Main House and in the garden in front of the Main House, as per our website.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused while we were making changes and improving the garden area in front of the Apartment, but the changes had to be made during Spring and the result is wonderful. The garden looks beautiful.

The Apartments are always rented out on a self-catering basis as per your reservation, but our guests have the option of having Breakfast served at the Main House for an extra cost, if they wish.

Thank you for your recommendations regarding our Studio Apartments by the pool.
The Apartment that you stayed in is also highly recommended as it is surrounded by trees and flowers in the Garden, and offers more privacy.

Kind regards

I was somewhat dubious before leaving the UK, especially as my health is poor, but I was quite Wowed! We had one of the garden rooms, which I have to say were beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean with views to die for! Everyone was so, so friendly and the staff very polite and helpful. By the second morning when we hadn't made it up to breakfast, we were asked If we'd like breakfast brought to our room, which it was every morning thereafter. (Fresh bread, home-made jams, fresh fruit, cake/pancakes, yogurt, juice and fresh brewed coffee!)
For the main it was very quiet and peaceful, though there was a distant 'canine chorus' about 7pm each evening which was totally outside the owners control and, to be honest, didn't last long and kind of added to the charm of the place!
The owners cats and dogs were real characters and very friendly - they had us in absolute fits of laughter.
My only real complaint was......I didn't want to come home! Many thanks for a wonderful holiday!!! Ness & Merv, Exeter

Room Tip: Ask for one of the two rooms down by the pool.

excellent accommodation, great views, friendly staff and lovely food. The pool areas has great views. We stayed between 3-10 Oct and the weather was very hot. We will return.
Will need to hire a car but can get cabs or buses.
You can walk down to the stony beach that can be seen from the pool area. Path begins at the bottom of the road and along part of the Levada then down steps to the road at the bottom. Also walk the Levada in the other direction to get to the main tourist/lido area.

Room Tip: direction are not very good, best check before hand.

We have just returned from Madeira and we felt compelled to write a review because we had such a wonderful time at Casa Papagaio. Nothing was too much trouble. Filomena is a lovely lady and Nihara (sorry if wrong spelling!) was a lovely person too - again nothing was too much trouble. We loved the atmosphere of the place - lovely views and the food is delicious. We did hear dogs barking but that is out of the control of Filomena and it didn't spoil our holiday. It is a rural setting and we believe that Madeirans use their dogs to guard the premises and usually nobody is there. I feel for the dogs personally! We would definitely stay there again if we returned to Madeira which is a beautiful island. I can't recommend it highly enough. Clare and Bill Gordon 28 September 2011.
