We stayed at this little gem of a hotel, Quinta do Serrado in the first week of August. The location, setting and views were even better than those promised on the internet. It was one of those holidays which is truly restorative. The island is beautiful, with plenty to explore and as other have recommended the jeep safari is a must. The beach is clean and golden and if you want to be away from the crowd take a wander down to the port. We spent an afternoon with just six other people for company. The people of Porto Santo are friendly and welcoming. They smile and want only that you enjoy your stay. The food is fantastic, the hotel restaurant has a good varied menu, the Torres has a fantastic smoke house for ribs and chicken, and the fish at "Grandma's House" was lovely.

If you want to try somewhere new and unspoilt then Porto Santo is the place for you and if you want a family run hotel, where the staff are chatty and friendly then Quinta do Serrando is the one. We made new friends and had time to chat and get to know people. This all made for a really special holiday experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 203. The end room on the second floor, furthest away from the restaurant. Quiet an...

We have just returned after spending one week at the Quinta Do Serrado. As the previous reviews all state this is the perfect hotel if you are want to get away from it all and have a total chill out. It's peaceful and very laid back.

The rooms are clean & tidy with everything you need in them, safes are available if you pay a deposit. My only complaint would be that hot water was not always available.

We stayed on a B&B basis with plenty choice available, however if you're not an early riser don't be surprised if there isn't a full selection left to choose from. For evening meals we dined in the hotel twice & whilst the food is good I would highly recommend that you get out and about to enjoy the culinary delights in the other restaurants that the island has to offer, such as Torres in the nearby village, La Siesta in the town and the golf club which also has amazing views of the island.

All of the staff were very polite and helpful, including the owner who could often be found enjoying a glass of his very tipple on the terrace!

If you're into walking and exploring then make sure you take a hike up the mountain situated behind the hotel. It's a long pull but the panoramic views from the top make it all worthwhile. The local beach is also worth a visit, as others have mentioned it is accessed via quite a steep path, therefore robust footwear and plenty of stamina are required for the return journey.

If there was one disappointing aspect of the hotel it was that the ten or so sun beds around the small swimming pool are not sufficient to service a 22 bedroom hotel. This is particularly evident when many guests are in the habit of leaving their towels on the beds for long periods of time, even when they are not using them.

Overall we enjoyed our break away and would definitely recommend this hotel to people looking for a week of total relaxation and getting away from the every day grind.

We spent a wonderful week at the Quinta do Serrado Hotel and will definitely return. The location is beautiful - sitting on our balcony or on the terrace was like being in a peaceful oasis with views to the mountains and the ocean. The hotel building is very attractive, blending perfectly into the setting, and the rooms are comfortable and kept immaculately clean. The owner and the staff are the friendliest we have ever met - they really cannot do enough for you. We stayed on a bed and breakfast option and the breakfasts were really good with a wide range of options to choose from. The restaurant is highly regarded and justifiably so - the food is excellent. We ate in the restaurant several times and the food was lovingly prepared from local ingredients. The service was also excellent. There was something quite magical about enjoying a glass of wine on the peaceful hotel terrace whilst watching hoopoes in the trees. Porto Santo is a truly beautiful island and this hotel is a real gem. We will definitely return and would like to thank Manuel and his staff for making our trip so special.

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday in this lovely hotel. As others have said the emphasis is on relaxation, eating, drinking, a little bit of walking and sun bathing - just what the doctor ordered! The hotel is situated in a perfect location. It is extremely quiet and peaceful with just the odd passing horse, yet within a short taxi ride to the glorious sandy beach. There is also a jewel of a beach about 30 minutes walk away - although beware - you will have to wear your walking shoes to get down to it as it is an extremely steep path. This is a very different beach than the main one, with spectacular rugged scenery, rock pools and huge waves. If you go there in the morning you will probably be on your own, but in the afternoon local people from the nearby village come down. We would recommend Torres restaurant in the village for an evening meal. Fantastic smoked ribs and chicken! The food in the hotel is good and excellent value and we ate in most nights.
Like others have mentioned, we would recommend the Jeep Safari. We did this on the first day and we are glad we did because you get a real sense of the geography and the history of the island. The guide was amazing - so friendly and informative - you could sense his pride and love of the island.
The staff in the hotel are wonderful. Manuel is so keen to please and the rest of the staff greet you as if you are part of their family. There is a really special atmosphere here!

Room Tip: We stayed in 201 which is on the second floor right at the end of the corridor, so very quiet.

We have just returned after spending a week at this special hotel. It is situated in the most beautiful setting surrounded by breathtaking views. You couldn't ask for anything better the staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble, the rooms were cleaned every day and the food was well worth the money. Would definately return for another holiday.

We have just returned from a really peaceful and relaxing week at Quinta do Sorrado. The hotel is much prettier than the photographs show and the rooms are comfortable, if not stylish or luxurious. The food is very good. I would recommend bed and breakfast, as the those on half board had a very limited choice, whereas the a la carte menu offers a little more variety. The meat dishes were better than the fish, on the whole. We went to five other restaurants on the island and they were all good quality and reasonable value. The main strength of the hotel is the staff. They are genuinely friendly and want to do anything they can to ensure you enjoy your stay. There are some very good walks in the mountains which are accessible directly from the hotel. Although the scenery at low levels is quite barren, it is worth the climb as the landscape becomes much more attractive higher up and the views are spectacular. The beach is also amazing- clean, sandy and not in the least crowded. We enjoyed walking along the 4 mile stretch. If you are after a peaceful, relaxing break, this is a great holiday.

Manuel is very proud of his hotel, and rightly so, an excellent break was had by my partner and myself. This hotel, and porto santo, is a great place if you just want to have a total relax, enjoy good food and the madiran wine!
All the staff are exceptionally friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. We were there on a half board basis, certainly no shortage of food!

I would definitely recommend the hotel, and restaurant, and look forward to going back.

Thank you to Manuel and family!
