We dealt with someone called Cary Fox, who obviously manages the apartment for Karen, who we never met.
He was nightmare. Refused to come to the apartment to bring the keys, insisted we had to go to his house to collect and return everything. Kept changing his mind about where to pay the money - first by bank draft, then not, then paid to someone in Canada. I should of known then he was not to be trusted.
Place was filthy. When it came time to leave he charged me for electric, cleaning etc. which he only provided receipt for after a long argument. Here is a summary of a final letter from my lawyer to him:
Dear Mr Fox,
I am writing with regard to the payment you requested from my client Dr xxx. Initially you told her daughter that there was an outstanding amount of 1100NIS, which was 500NIS for energy and 600NIS for cleaning. On querying this amount you subsequently said you had made a mistake in calculating the energy and the actual amount was 407. Dr xxx had asked for copies of the bills, and receipt for the month’s rental, which you do not seem able to provide.
It is normal practice to provide receipts of the payments received and money transfers when letting properties. In addition, the monetary amount for cleaning should be written into the contract so that the tenant knows exactly what to expect. The cleaner provided did not say he was on any payroll as an employee of yours and was seen to bring in his own cleaning materials. Are you saying that you own a cleaning business? The cleaner was on his own and therefore Dr xxx has no idea of what you mean by ‘additional people.’
Please clarify what you mean by payment of VAT. Are you stating you have broken the law by tax avoidance? You simply need to 1) provide the receipt for the month of your visit that he paid the cleaners and 2) provide the receipt from the utility company for the one month calculation.
With regard to the general standard of cleaning and condition of the property the furnishings and linen was filthy, very smelly, with dilapidations. Nor was the property being managed properly with any type of professionalism. In an e mail to you of the 5th August my client complained of the filth under the bed, the nail clipping in the bed, the fact that the fridge was not clean and the shelf units in the bathroom were also not clean. My client was forced to clean the flat and change the sheets on arrival. In addition she had to wash the linens, which were smelly.
In view of the problems my client’s offer of 300NIS for the cleaning seems to be a reasonable offer.
Nightmare, stay away.
Nice large apartment that comfortably accommodated my family of 5. Property manager immediately addressed small plumbing issue when brought to his attention. Apartment is well equipped with all necessary amenities. Building is very attractive with the added bonus of a gym. Would stay again!
The apartment is very basic, poorly maintained, and I had no hot water when I arrived.
(I was expected to know that the water heater had to be turned on!)
A light was hanging loosely from the ceiling, and other electrical sockets were detatched from the wall.
There were no instructions on how to use the TV and I only figured it out on the last day of my 7 day rental.
