The chapels that compose the stations of the Cross along the huge stairway that leads to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus is undoubtedly one of the best sites to be visited at Braga, especially for those who are catholic, as climbing the steps create a sensation of going towards God.

Although similar to the church in Lamego in the Douro Valley, Bon Jusus is more complex and a large site with hotels near by (which do not interfear with the experience.

The tram is unique-watch the "hydrolic" brake fill-up. The ride up or down is about 5 minutes. Makes sense if you are going to walk all the way down to ride up on the tram.

If walking down to the observation level just past the overpass, note each fountain for its uniqueness. From that level you can get the photo used in the brochures.

This is a site that just needs wandering. Enjoy!

We were staying at a hotel near the top and walked down, taking the elevado back up. The stone work is a bit deteriorated, maintenance must be awesomely expensive. The church is pleasant and the walk, too.

Don't seem outstanding as religious monument, but it is real landscape architectural masterpiece. The monumental steps with sculptures and a very nice park. The view from upper point to Braga and all valley is unforgettable. But it is not quit place because of many visitors.

It is actually quite a way out of town. From the train station take the #02 right to the attraction - €1.65. The funicular is a great way to get up but when you are finished admiring the chapels, grounds and view, take the stairs ALL the way down to the bottom of the hill. Lovely walk through the forest. Just round the corner is the bus stop where you arrived.
