“Ok to visit if you're in the area”
Reviewed 17 April 2014 via mobile

It's free and there are some nice gardens to walk in nearby but that's about it. Worth a stop for picnic but not worth travelling out of your way to see.

“It's a Castle!”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

It's a castle. Nothing much else. It is very cool though. And FREE. Amazing how it is built on massive boulders. It has a lot of character and its great to see. As part of the historic centre of Guimaraes its brilliant!

The castle doesn't take long to see but you could spend a whole day in Guimaraes exploring the historic centre

It is surrounded by a nice park area. Seemed to be camping vans parked near the rear so is room for vehicle access I would say difficult to get to if you do not know the city.

“10th-12th Century Medieval Castle”
Reviewed 4 February 2014

This was a lot of fun to visit! It is a nicely preserved castle at the top of a hill in Guimaraes. It's not huge, but it offers a lot in the way of history. It has the Medieval ramparts which, unfortunately, are closed due to repairs and who wants to fall off those things? There's an old timber and massive boulders inside and outside of the castle. Plus, at the base of the castle is a statue to Alfonso Henriques, the knight who fought from Guimaraes. The old chapel is on the grounds as well and available to visit.

“Original medieval castle in northern Portugal”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

In spite of not being so big, this castle is very attractive as it has all the elements that composed that type of edifices during medieval times.
