Eduardo & Elisabete provided a very warm and authentic welcome...they were just so determined to help us explore and enjoy the very best of Porto. Truly the nicest of hosts. We were even greet with Pastéis de nada and a decanter of port on arrival - such incredible kindness. If you want to experience historic Porto, yet want to be able to retreat to a sophisticated, spacious apartment - then Oporto Golden View is definitely the place to stay. It is extremely clean & comfortable...even after a 5-day stay, we couldn't fault it. The building (established in 1393) has been sensitively restored & renovated – loved the old stone wall in the lounge!
You literally step outside, and look onto, some of the oldest streets of Porto steeped in amazing history... and you're within a 1 - 2 minute walk of Porto's most important & interesting attractions. The family run Sao Joao Da Ribeira Restaurant located at ground floor of the building was excellent (we returned twice for the 'Arouca Styled' veal)...and the popular Cantina 32 on Rua Flores also offered divine dining. There is even a small yet very comprehensive grocery store within 50m of the apartment. Oh - and the elevator (rare in this part of the world) to the apartment is an added bonus when you have shopping or have endured long days of walking.
We left the large windows that face Rua dos Mercadores open for the duration of our stay to allow the sounds of the street below to drift in...Everything from live fado music from a local Portuguese restaurant situated below, to the beautiful canary birdsong that derived from the neighbours and local banter from the residents who surround the apartment made for a genuine Porto experience.
We would definitely book this apartment again, as we know there is so much more to discover in this fantastic area and the bed delivered a great night sleep. Highly Recommend Oporto Golden View.
