When we first arrived we were a little bit worried about the neighboorhood. But when the host opened the front door we were blown away! The corridor that is made by the little workmen houses is wonderfull ! At the end of the corridor there is a little garden with a view on one of the bridges of porto. A big contrast with the other side of the entrance door! The host gives you a omplete explanation of the history from these houses. Not one thing is too much asked. The host is always ready to give you some extra info about the city. Breakfast is brought to your house in a small basket with some homemade marmelades. I can only recommend this place!

Located in a rather „mature“ quarter (means pretty run down) this hotel was blowing us away. A couple of apartments and a stunning roof garden hidden behind a massive door to keep out the „mature“.
The host met us for a chat and took us to our rooms. Kitchen and couch downstairs and in the first floor the bedroom and a roomy bath. All clean and new, everything works and looks awesome.
Breakfast is delivered to the door every morning, nice selfmade jams and enough fruit for your backpack for later.
10/10 will come again!

Our taxi dropped us off, we buzzed for entrance under a round 99 Colored Socks sign, and Miguel answered. He was incredibly friendly and helpful, and before I even saw the room I was impressed with the open-air hallway between the rows of apartments / rooms, ending in the office, herb garden and fruit trees. The view isn't bad, either. The office has coffee and herbal teas, artisanal olive oil, port, and framed stories about the bread, the neighbor's rooster and the staff.

The units--they call them apartments but for Americans, think extended-stay type of hotel because we stayed two nights--are clean, well-stocked and nicely but minimally decorated. Someone took the time to give it personal touches like umbrellas, potted flower table centerpieces, blanket by the sofa, etc. It is newly renovated but an exposed stone wall keeps a feel for the older-style buildings in the neighborhood around. Our unit had a nice size kitchen--dishes, cooking utensils, microwave, two burners, table and chairs--as well as a bathroom and sofa bed. Upstairs was another bath and bedroom. For American standards the bathrooms are on the small side but are pretty standard European size--our other hotels have been similar. The bed was comfortable, pillows fluffy, featherbed and blankets warm.

Families should definitely take a look at 99 Socks--there's a Pingo Doce supermarket a quick five minute walk away. We traveled with a six-year-old, and being able to cook is super helpful when kids are sick of restaurants. It's a family-friendly layout, with the two levels giving the feel of a lot more space than a traditional hotel room, and with the sofa bed and second bathroom downstairs, it can easily sleep up to 4 people. If walking around Porto hasn't worn the kids out, there is a little outdoor space with "grass" turf and fun and funky pallet furniture.

Breakfast is delivered to your door starting at 8, at the time you specify. If it wasn't already great for families, now I don't have to get my kid dressed and out the door for hotel breakfast--I can let him eat in front of the TV with Disney Jr. in Portuguese. :) Awesome! A wooden basket comes filled with fresh bread, brioche croissants, fruits, cheese and meat tray, jam, fresh juice and a coffee of thermos. As with everything, the details are accounted for, including sugar, milk/cream and butter.

It looks like more buildings in the area are scheduled for renovation. I also liked the neighborhood around the hotel. 99 Colored Socks was perfect for us. We were quite sad to leave, and my son has already asked when we're coming back. Our first hotel in Portugal was a historic posada in Guimaraes, and despite coming from a historic, very different sort of hotel, we were incredibly satisfied with 99 Colored Socks.

A quick logistic note--this hotel is indeed close to Campanha station. Our GPS on our phone took us somewhere else (there's an apartment complex with 99 in the name as well, our mistake). GPS may want to go to that 99 Apartments more easily, so just double check (unlike us, we got an extra workout in before we finally made it.) It is walking distance or an inexpensive taxi ride from Campanha station. The historic center is also an easy 15 minute walk.

Overall, loved this hotel. It made our stay in Porto awesome. We would absolutely stay here again!

Room Tip: all rooms have shaded and privacy-screened windows to the open-air walkway between, so all are similar.
