“Excellent hotel”

Just returned from a three day stay. Can't really add much more to the very positive comments already made about this hotel. I congratulate the management and staff on running a hotel that consistently exceeds expectations. The basics are done exceptionally well with added touches that make the hotel outstanding, for example, quality toiletries, free safe in the room, empty minibar (unless you ask for it to be filled), English language TV, newspapers in the lobby, free glass of Port in the bar, high quality breakfast (particularly the coffee and fruit juices) etc... etc...

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you are a very light sleeper rooms facing away from the road/Trindade Station at the front of the...

We just spent 4 nights at this hotel & couldn't fault it. Most of the other reviews are very accurate. It's easy to get to from the airport (1/2 hour on metro - they leave evry 30 mins). It's facing Trindade metro station - walk straight out the exit & turn right, then walk up the slope for a few steps
.
The station is the main interchange for the city & is very easy to use. Make sure you keep the metro card, as you use it to 'reload' all future fares, or you will pay 50 cents extra for a new card. You pay according to each metro zone you go to.

The reception staff were great. I emailed them on the day we were due to arrive requesting a high up room & they replied immediately to say that we had it. They speak fluent English & French and were very helpful to all customers. E.g., they were happy to open a bottle of wine for us to take up to the 9th floor terrace. the terrace is only small, but it's as nice as the pictures show it to be.

The reception lobby is very comfortable & has a range of free international newspapers. The UK paper was The Mail (could've been worse - The Sun, I suppose). The bar is very tasteful & affordable, with a free glass of port for all guests. Nice touch. It's open til 1.oo am.

Breakfast was very good - the fresh fruit juices were excellent. The fresh coffee was very good, & you could also ask for espresso. Large variety of cakes / croissants etc. We don't eat meats so can't comment on that, but everything else was a justified 4* experience.

The hotel was very clean - no complaints at all there at all. The rooms were cleaned everyday, & plenty of fresh towels provided. The rooms weren't massive but were large enough. Two beds pushed together made a double (like many hotels in Portugal) & were very comfortable. A fridge was provided, as was kettle / drinks. You also got a free bottle of water each day - again, nice simple touch. The tv had approx 40 channels, many showing English language channels. A free electronic safe was provided. The closet was quite small, but adequate.

I would happily recommend the Trindade to other Tripadvisors. Enjoy.

Porto Tips ;
visit the Port caves - many are free.
don't bother with the 6 bridge water cruise - it's a waste of time & 10 euros each
the restaurants at either end of the strip along the Ribeira tend to be the better ones
the tours of FC Porto are presently wk ends only (not midweek as some tourist info says
wear comfortable footwear - it's incredibly hilly.
excellent airport - free internet stations & bottled drinking water dispensers provided

What a great place to stay if looking for a quiet, conveniently located hotel with a friendly and helpful desk staff.

Hotel is just across from Metro stop, making a quick trip downtown.

Hotel is quite new, with very clean and spacious room and bathroom.

Hotel staff spoke English and were willing to help with any queries.

Fridge was broken upon arrival and was fixed by the next morning.

Included breakfast included a wide range of breads, fruits, cereals, yogurts, juices, and even some hot foods

Only complaint was sporadic wifi access in room (on 6th floor).

Room Tip: Requested quiet room with reservation. If want better wifi access, might be able to request room...

Trindade really lived up to our hopes as an efficient and still relaxed, well-presented city hotel. Actually puts to shame a lot of the tatty tourist offering in Porto (e.g. many Ribeira restaurants, which you should avoid), and makes you realise what a simple and elegant result the management have achieved with some careful design choices. Breakfast was certainly the most comprehensive, healthy and well refreshed buffet we saw in Portugal over about seven hotels across the country. Of course there was TV in the breakfast room mainly featuring the national obsession - soccer! Front desk staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly, including easy parking help for their arrangement down the street, and a pinpoint-accurate timetable for the metro to the airport to avoid a 20-minute wait on the platform at Trindade station. All in all a strong recommendation for anyone wanting a reassuring and good value-for-money stay in an otherwise slightly disjointed city.

Room Tip: higher up was nice and worth the reqest. lift seems to serve Level 6 best (only one for all floors)

We stayed for 3 nights in the Porto Trindade and were pleased with our choice. The hotel is excellently located across the road from Trindade metro station which has direct access from the airport and is also a changover point for many of the other lines in the city.

The hotel is also well located for a walk into the main shopping area and is a 20 minute walk downhill to The Ribeira.

Like many areas in the city, first impressions can be misleading as the building containing the hotel isn't the most aesthetically pleasing externally. However, stepping inside into the modern reception area soon changes any initial opinions.

We found the staff to be helpful, professional and courteous and the room was of a good size and well appointed. The only downsides of the room were that the bathroom was small (with no bath) but had a very large walk in shower and also that despite a great sized wardrobe there was only 5 clothes hangers and 1 single drawer in the entire room. Obviously had we be staying longer this would have been an issue.

The breakfast room was light and airy and the selection of foods was excellent and always looked and tasted fresh.

One nice little 'extra' was on arrival, we were given tokens for a free glass port each in the hotel bar, which again was a well designed if relatively small area.

I have got to say, I did not notice any of the dirtyness witnessed by another reviewer and would have no hesitation in staying at this hotel in future.

Excellent hotel. Helpfull and welcoming staff. The rooms are very well conserved and have a modern decoration. The breakfast is excellent with a large variety of options. It has a good location, really close to the subway station and in a walking distance to the city center.

I really wanted to like this hotel. Really.

It's a modern design hotel situated perfectly in the center of Porto, just next to the Trindade metro station. The staff is courteous, the breakfast buffet fine, the bar is nice and there is a roof terrace with a view of the city.

And then there is room 204, which unfortunately ruined our stay.

At a first glance it seemed great. But we soon noticed that the room hadn't been properly cleaned for a long time - it was dusty and in places downright dirty (see photos).

A dustbin in the bedroom contained a nondescript dried white liquid. The bathroom was full of hair and other leftovers from former guests.

The next morning we complained at the reception, and the staff apologized and promised to do a proper cleaning job the same day. But when we returned from the city nothing had changed.

In the evening bad got worse, when bugs (silver fish) appeared from underneath the walls. We saw about 8-10 live ones as well as a yet unhatched bug in the carpet just next to our beds.

Now, I don't find silver fish disgusting on the same level als roaches - but they definitely don't belong in a hotel room. Because they eat hair, skin particles and other human remnants (among other things), I'd see them as a definite sign of a habitat that is generally unclean.

The next morning we checked out early. I sent several mails to the hotel manager describing our experience and kindly asking for an explanation, which I never got.

We'll definitiely never go here again. I've seen a lot of hotels all over the world, but never a 4-star where the room was this dirty...
