Booked this hotel after reading reviews on trip adviser. Perfect choice for exploring the city its within walking distance of all the major sights. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is themed on a old theatre, it is a surprise as you enter as its quite dark. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean. The only surprise I got was the bathroom toilet has a glass door. Unusual! The restaurant was first class serving excellent food. The breakfast was plentiful from the buffet service. We had a lovely time in the hotel and around porto. Plenty to see and easy to get around as the public transport is excellent.

We stayed a few nights on a package which included a room upgrade to a tribune room. The room was a good size with a glass bathroom cubicle. The bathroom has curtains instead of a door, but the toilet has a glass sliding door. You can see straight into the bathroom, unless you draw the curtain in the bed area. The bed is very comfortable with lots of soft pillows, but the lighting is poor - difficult to read and not suitable if you stayed here on business. The whole hotel is very dark, which is fine in the evening, but rather depressing during the day. The shower is over the bath and the bath is set into a glass panel. This fills up with water when you have a shower - it must drive the maids mad! If you were very elderly, I think you would struggle to climb in/out over the lip. No handles - all glass. Poor lighting in bathroom if you want to apply make-up. Breakfast was good, staff spoke English - you could order tea or cappucino from them. We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening - it was very quiet. Bar also very dark, but nice barman - happy to chat. The location of the hotel is very central and this is a plus. Reception staff were helpful with maps, local info, etc. The little courtyard is also dark, but fine if you want to smoke. Our room was on the 1st floor overlooking the courtyard - we did not find it noisy. A/c in the room, but you can open the windows - we prefer this. This is a design hotel, but I feel the designer/architect should spend the night to see how this type of 'theme room' works for real guests! We enjoyed our stay, but would not stay there again - it was too depressing to be in the gloom.

Teatro is a modern hotel with a nice decor, although the prevalence of dark brown tone is obsessive. The service is regular, and does not have anything special that distinguishes it from other hotel establishments.
Its best asset is the central location, and for that reason you probably will not have a restful night, due to the traffic in Sa da Bandeira St. The price seems to me disproportionate.

Room Tip: Do not choose a room to Sá da Bandeira Street.

Stayed at this property for 2 nights on business. The amenities were very basic nice products but only shower cap, shoe mitt provided and no conditioner which was annoying as I had forgotten mine. No robe, no iron and when I requested an iron they only had in house laundry service and nothing for guests use. When you have business based customers on multi stop trips this is very frustrating. This hotel only provides basics for a high room rate and is not of the quality expected for this price.

If you want to stay at Oporto you should choose this hotel. It is at the center of the city, close to the best places to see. Great location, the best services ever and a beautiful place. And don't forget to try its restaurant, one of the best in Oporto.

We stayed in this hotel for a long weekend in April. I agree that the hotel is "dark" but this is probably great in the middle of summer when it will be cool and dark inside! The location is fantastic, very close to Sao Bento station, where you can catch trains or the metro. It is also a quick walk to most places in the city, although there are a fair number of steep hills!
The hotel staff were well informed and answered all of our questions as well as helping with restaurant bookings and information about where to go in the city.
The rooms are well appointed, clean and very comfortable.

It is located within walking distance of all the attractions. The hotel is designed as a theater. Very interesting, but dark and confusing. Breakfasts for people who take care of health - vegetables, fruit, cereal. Rooms are small but have everything you need. Good slippers.
I will recommend to friendswho not afraid of darkness.
