I stayed here while traveling on business in late March. It was a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport. The hotel interior is very dark but after a few minutes you get used to it and it is actually kind of cool. The staff was excellent! Very helpful and genuinely interested in making my short stay a good one. The room was excellent. Nice mattress, good pillows and an awesome shower. I would stay here again if I have the opportunity. The location is perfect. A nice walk to the river or just around the corner from shops and restaurants. If I was a little more familiar with the trains I would have taken the train from the airport. There is a station right near the hotel.

it does seem we are on a stage. the costumes exhibited and the lighting are truly inspiring.
friendly staff, very comfortable. the bed is super and pillows are amazingly cozy.
the welcome drink was nicely offered through a voucher to be used at a convenient time.
the fruit on the buffet table for breakfast was very fresh and tasty.

Room Tip: room 104 is very good

Totally designed, if a little dark, chic walking distance from the river & sights. The BEST set of pillows I have every lain among. Upgrade to balcony room well worth reasonable cost for a smoker. Gourmet restaurant has degustation menus & REALLY good a la carte. Breakfast excellent & keeps one going all day unless on a port "tasting" tour further up the Douro river. Staff cannot be faulted - friendly, knowledgable, multilingual, thoroughly competent.

Room Tip: Smokers should request balcony room

We had three nights at Teatro and really cannot fault it. Extremely comfortable room and very clean. Friendly and helpful staff and restaurant very good although rather expensive for Portugal. Easy access to all historic sites.

The hotel is really out of the ordinary, it seems to be in a real Theater.

the rooms are big and very clean, the bathroom is fantistic because it is a design style one.
the position is very good, near the city center and the staff really nice and helpful.

if you want to have an experience different from the usual Hotel you should definetely choose the Teatro.

Great hotel in a very central location -- the city (even the wine caves) is within walking distance from this spot, albeit, with a bit of a hike. I'd certainly recommend this hotel again for it's prime location, large room, and comfy bed.

My major complaint is the dim lighting throughout the location. Not so much an issue in the hallways (where the dim lights goes with the theater feel), but it is a bit weird in the hotel room itself (although bright lighting in the bathroom). Also, there was also no alarm clock in the room.

A top quality hotel that set's itself apart from the normal high end chain hotels with a quirky style that worked for us, and staff that feel like family. The decor is modeled on theatres (encompassing a mix of modern and old), using dark colours and dimly lit (which may not suit everyone) with touches of extravagance; we found it stylish and interesting. This applies to the common areas and the rooms, and it all seems to be quite recently done. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The room was well equipped, a decent size, very quiet and comfortable, and with a great rain shower (though no bath). The bar had a good selection of drinks and casual food though the seating is a bit extravagant in style and the result is that it's not the most comfortable. Buffet breakfast was included, the quality was very good and there was a great selection. Dinner in the restaurant is really special, you can choose individual dishes but the idea is to take one of the two set menus and it's a real gourmet experience (the price is relatively high by Portuguese standards but it is absolutely worth it) - we also took the flight of wines that came with it and which was really great - and again the staff were very attentive, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the food and the wine. The location is very central and great for exploring Porto. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Teatro.
