“Great Hotel, Great City”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights and took in the Festa Sao Joao. We were initially booked in from the 24th but the hotel was good enough to change our booking at short notice after we discovered what we would be missing out on the night before. The staff were fantastic and seemed to all be at least quadrilingual; all pertinent points were circled on the map for us, taking into consideration the length of our stay. The room was a good size, with an incredibly comfortable bed and wet room style shower. Upon arrival, we were given a card for a complimentary glass of port which I thought was a nice touch, my boyfriend also bought me flowers on our first night and the staff at reception were kind enough to deliver a large enough vase to fit gladioli to our room. The only downside of the room and with the hotel in general was the brightness, the lights are all set to be somewhat dim and the mirrors are smoked glass so there is never any bright light, but this is the only negative we had. Definitely consider the Teatro if you are planning a trip to Porto, great location and a great night's sleep.

sylvite on reception was amazing,we checked in early and room was ready, it was my husbands birthday they noticed the date on his passport at check in and left bottle of bubbles in ice and a chocolate cake in our room as a surprise on our return from an afternoon out. Breakfast lovely, bubbles available and lots of choice, great service, we couldn't fault this hotel.

Room Tip: we had room 214 at the back of the building! whilst the view wasn't great it was so quiet we sle...

Nothing dreadful wrong with the hotel but not quite what you expect from a mr and mrs smith reco. A previous review was completely right, the hotel is too dark. But if they switched the lights up you may notice its not as attractive as it seems! Aircon was broken on our final night and appears they have no back up system. The wifi is also incredibly annoying and seems to either go slow or stop at regular intervals. Also, the oddest free standing bath ive seen in a while. Was encased in glass like a shower cubical and was completely impartical as your could reach the taps and the water didnt drain.

Hotel Teatro has a lot of character. Staff was helpful and friendly. However, we found the hotel very dark through the hallways, lobby and restaurant. Rooms were okay with balcony and good view to the outside, which we enjoy. The bathroom area was different with all glass a little room for privacy. good thing we were husband and wife and privacy was not an issue.
Not recommended other wise in case sharing the room with just a friend while traveling.

Daily breakfast was excellent with food of good quality and variety.

Staff helpful with recommendations and checking in/out, and with luggage.

Room Tip: Make sure you request the type of bed best for you.

We stayed in this hotel for three nigths and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this hotel for the following reasons:
- exceptional price/quality ratio
- cleverly designed, beautiful room
- good breakfast (with champagne!) included
- excellent shower
- very quiet and efficient airconditioning
- very good, central location

I usually do not dine at hotel restaurants, but an exception should be made in this case. Delicious, creative food (could be a michelin star resto) for a very reasonable price. Not to be missed!

I would very happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors are brighter and quieter

After being so highly rated on Tripadvisor, we were disappointed. It had nothing to do with the darkness as we were prepared for that as it is the theme the hotel is based on.

We found the reception staff extremely friendly and helpful but the room was very basic and the shower and toilet were part of the room, not separate, and there was nowhere to put your toiletries. The toilet door was all glass so offered no privacy, which some people may not like. I couldn't find a hairdryer in the room but luckily I had my own.

Although the breakfast offered a good variety, the scrambled eggs and bacon were cold as they were in a bain-marie which was not heated so we gave them a miss after the first day. Staff in the restaurant didn't provide any service at breakfast at all. We had to attract their attention to ask for tea/coffee and they didn't clear away the dishes from the table either. The wait staff just stood around but didn't do anything unless they had to. This is the worst service we have had at breakfast in any hotel we have ever visited.

We had a room at the rear of the hotel and it was lovely and quiet, which we appreciated. Overall though, we wouldn't recommend this hotel to friends or stay here again ourselves.

I have scored service as poor because of our restaurant experience but this doesn't apply to the reception staff who were always very pleasant and helpful.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, request a room at the rear of the hotel.

It is a lovely hotel in a great position for everything in Porto. The only downside is it's very dark! Bring a head torch. I understand it is part of the theatre and in keeping with the design of the hotel but it does make it a little tricky. I was also not a massive fan of the glass door toilets! However I would fully recommend this hotel for value and great service, all the staff couldn't have been more accommodating.
