“Very dissapointing”
Reviewed 1 April 2013

Stayed for 1 night in January 2013. Unfortunately the service at reception was very poor. This was acerbated when we walked into the room. We had asked for a non smoking room and the room smelled of smoke and the air conditioner did not work. Eventually after a long wait and trips to reception we were moved to a new room. Again the air conditioner did not work. It took 2 hours to get a response from the receptionist and the air conditioner working. Staff training seemed to be a problem here.
the room was ok but very small.

On the flip side the restaurant in the basement was excellent with very good service

Stayed here for three nights March 2013. Were able to get a deal on Expedia for approximately $100 USD per night.

Had a wonderful stay here. The hotel is just about a year old and they have done a wonderful job of re-purposing an existing crumbling structure into something chic and modern. Very interesting design. We were given a basement room and our windows overlooked a lovely ruined building. Room itself was small, but everything was comfortable and very clean. We kept our things in the safe while we were out sight-seeing.

Breakfast was included and it was great -- cured meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, yogurt, cereals etc. By stocking up at breakfast-time were able to save on lunch. Plus, the hotel is walking distance to the main square and to all the river front restaurants. It's only about a 15 minute walk over to the port tasting on the other side of the river.

We found the staff very nice as well. We arrived late and Marta checked us in -- she was really nice and took a moment to tell us about the area, even though it was quite late. She always had a smile on her face each time we saw her over the course of the weekend.

Would definitely recommend this hotel. Very nice hotel, good value, and very chic.

There have been many mixed reviews of this hotel. I have stayed here for 4 days of business and 3 days of holiday. I have moved rooms and used nearly all the rooms in the hotel. Hopefully, this can be received as a fairly objective review.

My only complaint was that the hotel had not updated the website to say that the gym was closed (drains flooded the room); a little irritating because Porto is a tough city to jog in with all the cobbles! The gym will re-open in late March 2013.

I warn you about the gulls outside; the whole district is overrun with gulls crying day and night. The rooms facing the road (my first 4 days) mean that you get pub/club revellers at 2-3am. It may be worth the €10 per night upgrade.

The rooms facing the back (4th floor) have great views, but poor storage space. Whereas all the other lower rooms have plenty of drawers.

The rooms themselves are on the small side. However, the amenities are fine. The walk in showers are strong. The beds are harder than some of my travelling companions were happy with, but I found them okay.

The food and drinks at the hotel were excellent; breakfasts are plentiful, the tapas bar is good and the restaurant is meant to be one of the best.

The staff are polite and patient. The room move was unplanned, but they were very accommodating.

All in all, very happy. The many locals that I met tell me that this is probably the best hotel in Porto.

Room Tip: 4th Floor, back of the hotel

Just back from restaurant -had the lamb although not sure matters! Food great
Service attentive throughout hotel and restaurant.
Staying in "penthouse". Lovely is all that needs to be said...what a view

Room Tip: Most expensive but the view is more than worth it

I took the most expensive hotel in the area. They didn't warn me about the works going on at my window and didn't accept to change my room.
I took a single room and they couldn't offer anything but too beds rather than a big one. There are no bathtubs, only very unconfortable shower
The hotel is well located and is a rehabilitation of an old building but besides that there is no confort
The windows are wood made and let air and sound pass wich is very ennoying
Air conditionning is not efficient and I felt cold every night
Sheets and pillows covers are not changed every day
To summarize, good smile, good location, historical rehabilitation but no confort and poor service comparing to competition. I am not planning on returning back to this hotel

Room Tip: ask for a plan and choose your room, don't count on desk to help with anything other than smilin...

Very good hotel, on the Ribiera of Porto. Comfortable bed in a small room, but the size was no issue. Very clean rain shower in a clean bathroom. Good view across the river from the room. Plenty of TV channels in many languages for the evening. Only niggle was that the Wi-Fi signal wasn't that strong in the room. Friendly staff at check in, asking if my journey was ok. Took a while to check out due to the only receptionist being on the phone to another customer, but that was neither the hotels or the staff members fault.

The location was a bit of a walk from the main Metro station in Porto (Trindade), but wasn't an unreasonable distance.

One of the better hotels I've stayed in, and one of the better prices I've paid!
