Stayed two nights at the Intercontinental in Porto. As a Spire Elite Ambassador, we were upgraded to a Duplex Suite, room 412. The AMB gift was a small box of tasty local chocolates and in the room was water (one big bottle daily) and some pastries.

On entry, there’s a small bathroom with toilet and shower straight in front of you with a living room area across to the right. Up the staircase there’s a large comfortable bed and a large bathroom. Toiletries were Anne Semoin, found at some other ICs. The space was huge and the furnishings seemed top notch.

However, the space perhaps felt too big: being effort going up and down the stairs. Also, the turndown service was inconsistent. The first night, we received bed time chocolates, replacement towels and mats next to the bed. The second night none of these and the curtains weren’t closed properly.

We got two free drinks at the bar. I had an Apple mocktail, very tasty, and my wife a Black Russian, also tasty.

My wife really liked the smells in the hallways and by the lifts coming from the diffusers.

We received a late checkout at 4pm.

Overall, despite the small negatives, excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Recommended.

Hint 1. If you are driving, this hotel is very easy to miss. Park outside on the footpath and the staff will attend to you.
The staff are particularly welcoming, the breakfast is excellent and the dining room experience is 5 star.
The whole experience was faultless. Highly recommended.

I was visiting Porto for a culinary trip with friends of mine. We stayed in the Intercontinental there and I must say that we found the hotel but especially the service there exceptionally good. We were greeted personally by name when we entered or left the hotel and this was done by both the reception staff and the people in restaurant where we had our breakfast. Besdies the rooms being very beautiful and luxuriously laid out it was this personal touch that made our stayvery pleasant.

This hotel is central to everything. We’re on a Tauck tour so if we were traveling on our own this would be out of our budget, but because we’re on a group tour we get to stay here.

The lobby is very luxurious and welcoming.

The rooms are spacious and modern.

It’s the first time I’ve seen in a bedroom a charging station that can charge 17 devices simultaneously.

The bathrooms are very spacious all in marble.

Breakfast this morning was in a beautiful dining room with a buffet fit for a king.

Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful.

We were lucky to be able to book this hotel on points as IHG members and receive an upgrade. We had a duplex, with a loft bedroom. It was wonderful; more luxury than we usually select. Centrally located, beautiful interiors, designed with sensitivity to the palacio it replaced. The facade is restored, the interior new. All the pleasures of modern construction - large bathrooms, marble-tiled - with a 19th century feel.
Our only complaint is breakfast is a buffet and 25 euros. More money, more food than we wanted. We went out for a light breakfast, but it would have been more pleasant to be able to chose to have that in the hotel.
We had dinner at the bar; it was excellent. Assume it shares a kitchen with the hotel's restaurant, the Astorias.

Room Tip: our 5th floor room was quiet despite being on a busy square
