“Great room, spacious and modern”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2013

The hotel is a little bit distant from the down town but street car near the hotel takes you to heart of the city within 10 to 15 minutes. Excellent hotel with modern and spacious rooms.
Really enjoyed the stay here last May. Breakfast buffet selection needs a bit more variety and items though.

What an amazingly spacious, clean and beautiful hotel room! Everything brand new. And considering the price we paid, it is well worth it. Service is also very good. We will definitely stay in this place if we visit Porto again.

All facilities are good and the quality is a pleasant surprise. Large rooms and self-catering facilities if you need them. The shower is a curiosity bordering on a folly but it's acceptable. The main issue is the position at the end of the line near university and hospital. But, if you're prepared to use the excellent light rail service every time you want to go somewhere and aren't fussy about where you eat, it's fine.

Very new hotel, with big rooms (apartments) and excellent facilities. It is a few steps away from the Metro station Hospital de San Joao, yellow line, taking you (directly) to the city centre in 10minutes and running frequently day and night (till 1am). The room was very quiet (despite being in front of the elevator), we had a terrace and a whirpool shower and wifi connection worked perfectly during our stay.
We did not try breakfast, but the area is full of cheap and good cafés and small restaurants, and a supermarket is only a few minutes far (metro stop IPO).
Great connections also to the coast (Matosinhos and Leça da Palmera) operated by Resende minibuses stopping on the avenue right in front of the hotel.
The only thing that could be improved is the staff..very helpful indeed, but a few more smiles would be definitely a plus!

very nice hotel, everything was sparkling clean and seemed brand new. i was pleasantly surprised at how posh it felt. very comfortable, roomy inside. it was a short walk to the metro to get to downtown so i guess the location wasnt too bad, but you kind of feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere or at least on the edge of the city. i wouldnt stay here for the location, but i would stay here for the nice amenities. there are a few okay restaurants nearby and a mcdonalds within a short walk. the metro stop is a 5 minute walk if that and that will take you downtown in 15 minutes.

Probably the best designed hotel I've have stayed at in a long time. The rooms are huge and come complete with a functional kitchen in the foyer (microwave, kettle, hotplates and a small refrigerator). The bedroom large as well, and has a dining table in addition to work tops and storage space. The separate bathroom (with sink and bidet) and shower cubicle (with mufti-functional shower heads) flank a wardrobe and dressing area.
The metro system has a terminal only 200 meters from the hotel, and metro staff are on hand to assist. Trips to the metro's main hub in the city center take about ten minutes and cost less than 2 Euros per person return.

There were 8 people in my party traveling - this hotel is a little out of the way but had it's pros and cons.

PROS:
1. it is across the street from the train station, and this was a bonus to go downtown and see the sites. The metro is easy to use, fast and clean
2. it is across from the major teaching hospital, Hospital São João if you cut yourself, or are having a baby.
3. it is a block away from a number of fast food restaurants, so dining out (casual) is not a problem.
4. it has apartment style appliances - the fridge and microwave were great
5. there is a small strip mall about 2 blocks away with Froiz, a supermarket (big) where you can buy food, fresh fruit, milk, cereal, etc. If you have small kids or don't want to eat crappola for every meal, you can actually eat healthy
6. the rooms were pretty cheap.

CONS (the bad):
1. this hotel is hardly in the center of "what's happening". It is about a 15-20 minute train ride to get to see any of the sites. If you stroll around the neighborhood, you might die of boredom
2. the doors to get into the suites must have been designed by the same guy who makes childproof medication bottles. I had to have someone from the front desk come up and show us how to caress the door lock "just so" so it would open sesame for us. Another couple in our group of 8 had to have them come 3 time.
3. the door handles, locks are NOT GERIATRIC FRIENDLY, or if your have arthritis, weak hands, etc. They use these tiny knobs and a twisty-screw type mechanism to open the door. My pre-teen kids would be unable to open the door.
4. the wifi needs you to log in with a special code repeatedly. Annoying after the first 50 times.
5. good thing it is across from a major hospital - if you wanted to eat high calorie, fatty fast food, that was pretty much your only dining option. The boredom from walking around that neighborhood could kill you too.

The straw that broke the camel's back:
Another member of our party had a broken air conditioner. It was 27 degrees in there and the front desk told them to "open a window". The conditions were unlivable - it was sweltering hot and humid, so they had to crash with someone else, inconveniencing them for the night. They were downgraded to a smaller room, and the front desk person gave them a really hard time and would not reimburse them for the unlivable room, nor give them any credit for downgrading them or the inconvenience to the other travelers in our party, and they were told, "if they didn't like it, they were free to go to another hotel". It was 1:30 AM - what a stupid suggestion. A scene had to be made before the front clerk would even call the night manager and even then, it was unhelpful.

So, I won't be staying here again nor will I recommend the place.
