Excellent hotel with nice and clean rooms. Staff is extremely kind and thoughtful. Excellent breakfast and a lounge bar in the roof top with the best view in Oporto.

We stayed on a high Executive floor at this excellent hotel in a nice residential neighborhood a convenient walking distance from the Casa da Musica and the Contemporary Art Museum (which are not to be missed). The rooftop breakfast was superb, and the service was excellent - and the restaurant has a great view. No other tourists (a definite plus!).

This is a large and pleasant hotel that seems to attract mainly a business crowd - often large groups (it isn't called a congress hotel for nothing). Our room wasn't ready when we arrived just after lunch, but they made us very welcome and gave us a complimentary glass of port. There is no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms - it is annoying to have to pay 3-4 euros through room service every time you want a cuppa.

The breakfasts were excellent with lots of choice. The Spa was closed when I was there (undergoing change of management apparently), but what I saw didn't look anything special. There is a nice pool, but the hotel insist on you wearing a horrible rubber cap - have never experienced this anywhere else. You can buy them for 3 euros. There is also a very nice, if expensive, rooftop bar. .

The hotel is on the outskirts of the city and so you will need to take a bus to get to the old city. The metro is about a 10 minute walk away. On the plus side, getting on the bus going the opposite way takes you straight to the beach. Incidentally, the fare system is a little confusing. You have to buy a travel card and load it up with the type of journey you want - there are different fares for different zones, but the card won't let you load up more than one type of journey at a time. Also most of the machines only take change, not notes and there aren't any human beings selling tickets in the stations. You could see many of the locals also getting frustrated at machines not doing what was requested, and so I don't think this is just a tourist thing!

There are a variety of restaurants and bars just outside the hotel, but most looked fairly mediocre. Your best bet for a decent meal is to take a taxi/ bus out to Matosinhos, where there are some great restaurants (especially fish). If you are a vegetarian (like me), you will struggle to find a decent meal - many restaurants, especially in Ribeira, are stuck in the 70's - it's a cheese omelette or nothing!

Whenever I go to Oporto, Porto Palácio is my favorite hotel. It´s location, in a business area of the city is very handy, as well as, the access to the main road to Lisboa (normally from where I come).
It´s by far the hotel with the best offer of restaurants, from Japanese, to Italian, to typical Portuguese food.
The rooms were all renewed and offer great comfort.
Wi-fi is available all over the hotel, free of charge.
The bar and restaurant at the top roof as the most spectacular view of Oporto.
The staff is always attentive and helpful for any needs you may have. Be at the front desk, restaurants or bars.
If you need facilities for meetings and conferences, you have the conference centre by the hotel, fully equipped.
That´s why I´ve said above, "Porto Palácio is my home in Oporto"!

The hotel staff were courteous, friendly, very helpful and attentive.

The whole hotel experience was luxurious and calming, just what is needed for a relaxing and pampered break.
p.s.
one needs to be fit to cope with walking up and down the steep hills but the transport was readily available to make exploring easier.
