“Quality Inn Porto, Portugal”
Reviewed 8 November 2012

We stayed at the Quality Inn Porto for a couple of nights after a river cruise in November 2012. We paid 12.50 Euros for an "unmetered" taxi from the port to the hotel. This taxi was arranged by the river cruise company, so we didn't know until we entered the taxi that it wasn't metered. The hotel is walkable from the port, for those who are hearty enough, by using the funicular (elevator) which costs 1.80 Euros per person, one-way. When you leave the station at the top, walk straight uphill (it's not steep) one and a half blocks to Batalha Square (Praca da Batalha). The hotel is the large pinkish building just to the left across the square.

Check-in was easy and the staff friendly. The location of the Quality Inn Port was superb for walking to different places of interest, shopping, and restaurants. Our double room was moderately priced at 137 Euros for 2 nights. The room was clean and the bathroom was a decent size---not huge, but manageable. It had a tub/shower (with shower curtain), sink, toilet, and bidet. Two sealed plastic cups were on the bathroom sink along with a small basket that had a small bar of soap and a couple of shower caps. The room had a king-size bed, flat screen TV, phone, and had plenty of storage space. It also had a coffee/tea making tray with a variety of coffees and teas. Our room (#606) was pretty quiet, even though it faced onto Batalha Square. My brother had a single room (#604) which was smaller and had a double bed with flat screen TV, phone, and coffee/tea-making tray. His bathroom had a shower cubicle, not a tub/shower combo like in the double room. He paid 127 Euros for two nights.

The included full buffet breakfast was excellent and had hot items such as scrambled eggs, sausage and make-your-own toast, and cold items such as cereals, fruits, juices, yogurt and rolls. Breakfast was served from 6:30am to 10:30am.

This hotel was better than we expected for the price we paid. If you're looking for a moderately-priced, clean, well-located hotel, this is the one.

Wow! what a wonderful city Porto is.

This hotel is fine for a visit, maybe a bit overpriced.
The location is excellent a few minutes walk into all the historic parts of the city.

The rooms are reasonable however thay have rather small sized bathrooms and a small shower cubicle.
There is a kettle and tea/coffee tray and a hairdryer in the room.

The views from some of the rear rooms over the rooftops of Porto is great, However front facing rooms probably don't have such a good view.

Breakfast was a little mean, with tasteless sausages and cheese so thin you could read the paper through it.

We probably wouldn't use the hotel on subsequent visits.

The hotel was clean and bright, with a good, although as usual, unimaginative breakfast. The staff were helpful and friendly. The town of Porto is, however, one of the dirtiest, and graffiti covered cities that I have had the misfortune to visit, in quite some time. It was extraordinarily difficult to find a reasonable restaurant anywhere close to the hotel.

First i got the room with small window at the end of the corridor... very small.... I have seen that they also had room with balconies and went to check if I could change it... I was prepaired to pay the difference in price, but the receptionist was very kind and changed my room for free...

Hotel is more than just OK.... - location is good, price was fair, comfort of (the cecond room) was superb... , breakfast rich and tastfull - they houdl have one more elevator, but it's not a big problem.... Underground parking across the square = resonable price

The room size

Room Tip: room with balcony and away from the Praca de Batalha

We spent one night in this hotel. The location is great as you can walk everywhere, the rooms were nice and the breakfast was ok as well. Nothing spectacular but it was a cozy stay, it does feel like a chain hotel but at the end, is a good deal, is clean and location is great.

Stayed in this hotel for just one night, staff on desk very nice, helpful, friendly, rooms quite big, bathroom nice size, it could have been cleaned a bit better and all the water was running out brown, (so had to buy water to brush teeth), tea making facilities in room a bonus, but don't use during the day as they can't be replenished, we made this mistake, when we asked for more milk, and it was only 6pm, we were told that 'they didnt have a housekeeper on duty, therefore no milk was available'.
This was the only downer, it's a pity as it could have been solved, as the hotel bar, opposite the reception was serving coffees......with milk, why couldnt they have given us some in a jug from there. Good location though, for shops restaurants and the river is only a 5€ cab ride away.

Since our first stay in 2007 we were back to Quality Inn Porto 4 times, a fact that speaks for itself. Each stay was great. Quality Inn has spacious rooms, clean bathrooms, delicious breakfast, friendly staff and convenient location and all this for decent price. Porto is one of our favourite destinations and I can't wait to visit it again.
