“Great location”
Reviewed 3 July 2012

A couple of minutes from the main square, the Clerigos tower and the beautiful Livraria Lello bookstore. My room was spacious, spotless and with a view over the rooftops toward the main square. Breakfast was pretty basic but I liked being able to eat before setting off for the day and 5 euros seemed pretty reasonable to me. They offer a really reasonably priced laundry service compared with the majority of hotels I've stayed in. No TV in the room but with free wifi and an ipad I had plenty to entertain me when I wasn't out exploring Porto. The staff couldn't have been more friendly.

The situation in the center made me chose it, not knowing that's in the middle of "the night spot" of Porto, you can imagine that it was noisy. The guy at the reception didn't speak any other language than Portuguese which was a bit difficult for conversation (I can only greet and thank in Portuguese, but speak English, French and German but none of these helped!)
My room was very big but you had to climb up different staircases, one starting just behind the room door (amazing that they don't have any troubles with the fire department!) and under the slopes of the roof which made you walk cautiously in order to not bang your head. At least there was a stool in the bathroom so I could sit down in front of the wash basin and the mirror; otherwise I would have been able only to see my belly button :-)

On the other side I liked the modern and quite stylish equipment of this tiny hotel - should there be a next time I definitely would ask for another room.

Room Tip: Don't take the room under the roof if you are more than 3 feet tall !!!

We got a room underneath the roof where we could only move by creeping on hands and feet. Walking in an erect position was only possible within 20 cm next to the wall which was unfortunately also blocked by furniture. Constantly banged my head.
Unbearably loud techno music from the bar next door during all night.
Uff!

Cosy accommodation, staff was very helpful and obliging. Good central location you can walk to all the main attractions. Rooms were comfortable and have all of what you need. If you have children (ours are 21 to 23 years old) the next block and two up will entertain them as is the where the night life of Porto is - but no noise heard in the guesthouse other than regular chiming hourly city bells. From a quality to value perspective we were also very happy. Certainly this is one that we would recommend and stay again.

The location is excellent if you're up for a bit of hiking! Of course the whole city is a huge hill:) The closest metro station is Trindade or even Aliados.(15'). It is also very close to Livraria Lello: the old and one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world. The room was very comfortable and clean.40 euros for two persons was great for a night at Porto. The receptionist told us that there was also a 24/7 front desk, which was a plus for a small hotel, and we also felt great security despite the edgy atmosphere around the neighboorhood at night. The door was always locked and there was a doorbell for the customers. The only bad thing was that we had to keep the bethroom door shut at all times in order to avoid the damp smell of the walls -because of the humidity- spreading over the room and our stuff. .

The location is very close to the city center (Praca da Liberdade, 3 minutes walk) and about 10-15 minutes walk to Praca Ribeira. From the airport you can just take metro to Trindade and walk around 10 minutes there. The lobby is nice and modern. I got a double room in the old building with old carpet, they should provide slippers. If I could choose, I prefer the new building with wooden floor. The room is pretty nice but does not have a TV but you can watch TV in the lobby with other guests. They also provide water in the room. The free wifi connection is an advantage. Oh yeah, don't forget to take your own bath amenities since they don't really provide ones. For EUR 30 per night, I don't think I should complain (and they only accept cash). One more thing, the staff also sell the yellow bus sightseeing tours but I'd rather take the red hop on hop off bus since not so many people take this yellow bus and the red one has a better location for the cruise.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new building.

We just came back from Porto and our stay at Oporto House was very pleasant.
It is located right in the centre of Porto a perfect spot of the city, very near sao Bento Station, Aliados tube station and the major bus routes. The lovely building is in a quiet street close to Torre de los Clérigos.
We stayed in the renovated side of the building: everything was new and spottless clean.
The bed was comfonfortable, the room very quiet at night, the bathroom new and cleaned every morning.
You can have breakfast in a lovely bright room with a view

All the staff were very friendly, helpful and spoke very good English. Julia illustrated us every aspect of the city, she was very nice as was Joana.

The price of the room was really good for the amazing service you get.

My only suggestion to the owner would be to put some hooks and shelves in the bathroom.
