“A touch of class and luxury at affordable prices”

This 5 star hotel situated in the historical centre close to all the important sites. Old-fashioned but still charming and full of atmosphere. Our 'room' was a luxury suite on the 5th floor overlooking the square, a large quiet spacious suite made us feel like millionaires ! Staff were all charming and helpful. A welcoming glass of port set the theme for a wonderful stay. Breakfast was sumptious, really good.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade on the top floor !

We stayed there for 2 nights recently. The foyer of the hotel is really pretty, cosey and very dramatic. We had a suite and it was a dramatic blend of old and new. The bed is very comfortable. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was reasonable and the tastiest food I have had on my trip.

Very well located hotel, just the main square in Porto. The hotel is rather old fashioned, but the rooms have been refurbished and are nicely sized. We got an upgrade to a suite, which was located on the street side. I rather suggest you ask for a room which is not located on the street side, as the nightlife around is quite noisy.
The hotel doesn't look nice from outside, but as soon as you enter it you feel the 5 stars.
The breakfast buffet was very good. Staff is very friendly and helpful, especially at the reception and they welcome you with a free port wine. No hotel parking available, but they have a fair deal with a public parking and a very efficient free valet service.

The staff here are very helpful, friendly and attentive. Most of them speak some English. We stayed three nights here and really enjoyed our stay. The location is very central, close to all the local bars, restaurants, river and other local attractions.

Stated at the infante sagres while on a city break and it was just what we wanted. Not really 5 star but neither was the price.
Good location not far from the station and the main square where you can pick up the sightseeing buses and a stroll down to the river mainly through pedestrianised areas.
Front staff very welcoming with a glass of port, although room was not ready.
Room was adequate I had read on here that they were tired but we found ours to be fine. Bed was good and comfy. Shower a little basic.
Breakfast was one of the reasons we chose the Sagres others do not always provide it and the alternatives were McDonalds or crosaint and coffee at a bar. It was not a five star breakfast but ok. Bacon and eggs, Luke warm, as was the tea and coffee.
Trains from the airport are excellent put ours to shame. And Porto has a lot to offer including the famous port houses which were good.
Overall I would stay at the Sagres next time we visit.

It's one of the top adresses in Portugal, and I would even make a step further to say one of the leading and most charming hotels in the world. Entering the building located in the centre of the old town you are immediately caught by the historic and dignified atmosphere! A wonderful handcrafted fireplace in the parlos and the stained glass windows in the staircase are some of the architectural and decorational highlights. All rooms with a large marble bathroom and old furniture let you feel like a highness! Awesome mix between tradition and modern! The service is inconspicious but omnipresent and perfect! Unfortunately we had no experience with the restaurant as we had allready reservations outside every night. But the coffee shop in the atrium is worth to enjoy! Try the wide selection of old port wines!

Overview

-The hotel was good in some areas, and very poor in others.
- Some staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there.
- The breakfast was impressive, but let down by rude service, and the hot selections (eggs, sausages) had gone cold on all three mornings.
- The communal areas are grand, but the rooms don’t match – no tea/coffee making facilities and not sound-proofed.
- The internet is dreadful – don’t go here if you need to use Skype.
- You get a glass of port on arrival, most likely to deaden the senses.

The first night, we were treated to a near riot, with a huge disturbance between drunk guests on our floor. The police were called, but not until after half an hour of shouts, a phone call to our room from a random person, and people stinking the floor out with cigarette smoke. It should have been dealt with more forthrightly, but was instead allowed to deteriorate into a debacle that disturbed everyone on the floor at 6am. It was the beginning of an up and down stay.

The basic fact is that the hotel is overrated. It simply cannot be 5 stars. The communal areas are very impressive, and there is a real sense of ‘Titanic-esque’ luxury. But the rooms are dated. There are no tea/coffee facilities, the mini bar is also exceptionally expensive (6.50 Euro for a bottle of cheap beer) and the bathroom’s a bit tired and grubby.

One of the other huge problems with this hotel was that the rooms aren’t soundproofed. During our stay, we heard showers, toilet visits, people chatting and a host of other noises. This disturbed us two mornings out of three.

The staff were hit and miss. Some were polite, and others surly and ill-informed – the front desk still directed us to a bar that was closed, despite it being owned by the hotel. We also waited for 15-20 minutes before getting served drinks in the hotel bar, and that was only after twice requesting if it was actually open. The service at breakfast was...well…rather quite odd, and the food was cold on all three mornings.

Trying to use the internet was a nightmare. Loading an email was frustrating, but trying to listen to music on Youtube made me want to kill myself and everyone around me.

Overall, I’d probably choose somewhere else next time. It’s a shame, because with a bit of effort, this could easily be irresistible opulence. Right now though, it limps along half-heartedly, failing in its attempts to be top quality. It might be five stars in Porto, but that doesn’t say much for a city whose roofers, cleaners, glaziers and dentists are on constant strike, and whose inhabitants resemble a bedraggled and port-soaked tribute to Fagin’s group in Oliver Twist.

Room Tip: Avoid the hotel, and maybe give Porto a miss as well.
