A Charming historic hotel in a narrow street , central, not far from th Bento train station. Breakfast is a feast for every food lover: all kind of home made pastries, cakes an quiches, fresh fruit and local sweets... a lovely garden in which you can have brakfast, if it does not rain...
I asked for a front room, but on the last night there was much noise since a group of youngsters spent the noght in a a night club, pub at the end of the street and they were shouting so loudly that I was not able to sleep... the rooms are spacious and clean, the t.v.is up near the ceiling, a small one that you can hardly see... but no need to be inside when in Porto!
No aircondition and no hairdryer, very little accesories in the bathroom. Go for the charm of the hotel and for breakfast- staff very correct, far from being friendly.

Pros: I would come back to Porto just to stay at this hotel. It is like staying at 'period rooms' you see at the museum. Very classy with no pretension. Proud of history but not boasting. Everybody who worked there, receptionist and attendant at the breakfast, have professionalism. At the height of tourist season I payed only 126€ for two nights (July 2012). Just unbelievable. I want this place to be kept secret so that it won't change. A small hotel with unique character and rich history - that's what Grande Hotel de Paris is.

Cons: None. Noise from the street didn't bother me at all.

Hotel is located very good, walking distance to the central plaza and 10 minutes to the river bank. It is not very noisy like some people say here, but it is true, that if you don't like gulls, then maybe it is better to stay a bit further out of the city :) I prefer their 'noise', it is really cool, you can always close the window and you won't hear anything.
Besides that -- hotel is not a new one, it is more or less retro, but everything works fine. A breakfast is very lovely, a lot of choise, fresh ingredients and I guess one of the best parts in the hotel :) The price could be lower though.

Very nice hotel in Porto, good buffet breakfast in the morning. The hotel have a good location, but it is noisy at night. It seems that all the gulls of Porto were flying around this hotel during the night, screaming. We stayed there for 3 nights and we were disturbed 2 nights out of 3.

Welcome to Porto, if you're looking for a hotel with character rather than the international brands which when you're inside you could not even tell which country you are in, then take a look at the Grand Hotel du Paris in Porto.

A small hotel of only 40ish rooms means that the staff soon become accustomed to your needs. My wife and I stayed here for four nights on a short break to get away for a nice change. On arrival late evening we were greeted by friendly reception staff who processed our registration efficiently and quickly, knowing that late evening arrivals are simply looking to get to their room as soon as they can. We were personally escorted to our room by the reception staff, there is fortunately an elevator installed in the hotel – certainly helps when arriving with luggage.

The room we had been allocated I can certainly recommend for future travellers, go for one of the top floor rooms on the back of the building. From the room you can see the hotel gardens, which for a hotel of this age in such an older crowded part of the city is unusual, looking over the rooftops of the mostly low-rise city down towards the river Douro and the 'newer' part of the city on the southern bank of the river.

Breakfast, the only meal served at the hotel, certainly lives up to it's reputation with a wide range of cold cuts, breads, cheese, pastries and cakes. Eggs and sausages are available, not to order, but freshly made. Coffee and multiple teas are available, fresh juices as well. Stuff yourself in the morning (not difficult to do) and you'll be set for the day.

The hotel is centrally located in the historic part of Porto, easy access to the multiple historic buildings and museum, the nearest Metro station is but a short walk away. Also within a few paces are stops frequented by the open topped bus tours of the three companies offering sight-seeing routes around the city.

If you get yourself the Porto Tourist card, available from reception, discounts are available to various museum entry fees along with discounts from shops and other tours such as the river boat trips.

I can certainly recommend this hotel, definitely for shorter trips – which most of our fellow guests seem to be – don't expect all the mod-cons you can think of at this hotel, it's not that sort of place. Just visit, relax and enjoy.

Room Tip: High floor at the back of the hotel

We enjoyed our stay at Grande Hotel de Paris. The building is interesting and is filled with antiques - it's almost like stepping back in time a little. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke great English. The location is nice for exploring the city, although it is more in the "business" district of Porto. This ended up working well for us because everything was a short walk away.

The room was very nice. We had a window onto the street and had no trouble with noise at night (although we do always bring ear plugs when traveling). The bathroom is spacious, clean, and looks updated. The breakfast is a nice treat - with great seating on the patio in the garden and a variety of choices for food.

I've called it a "business class" hotel because it felt more professional than some of the other hotels in Portugal and Spain (i.e., not family run). We also used their parking garage, which is a couple of blocks away. It was nice to be able to pay the parking on our hotel bill and not have to worry about paying each time we entered and exited the garage. I would recommend the hotel to friends.

Somewhat dated but very clean and quiet, friendly and helpful staff, we had a good sized room at 65 euros a night, very good breakfast with a large choice to suit every taste, nice garden to have breakfast in if the weather is fine. We thought it very good value for a central hotel only minutes from Aliados metro station, ticket from the Airport 1.80 euros takes about 30 minutes the transport system in Porto is very good.
