This hotel is a boutique hotel with certain aspirations to glamour.
It is the most ostensively designed hotel I've ever stayed in. This is good thing, with the hotel being like a Swiss Watch, with each component being essential to the function, a planned element supporting your stay.
For example the corridors are weirdly dim, but lights come on as you pass. The dimness makes you fear that you won't be able to enter the door code you been given, but there is a discrete illuminating the keypad: and on it goes.
In short the hotel designers have considered what you actually want to do in a hotel. The corridor is dim to mark a transition from the world into your place of rest: there are no bright lights to jolt you into late night wakefulness.
The room doors have a weight to them that suggests they are heavily soundproofed: something that is proved the moment you close them. In fact these rooms might be the most sound proofed hotel rooms I've stayed in.
Everything in the hotel just works. It's not as glamourous as the designers hope you'll think it is (from the heavy hint dropped by the Hollywood posters on the wall), but it is a very efficient machine for taking the weary traveller and putting them into a restful sleep.
The staff are as efficient and well designed as the rest of the hotel.
The hotel is in Batalha Square (pronounced in Portuguese as Pra-sa da Batalya). This is clearly a liminal point of the city, where the tourist friendly brushes up against the financial pain the Portuguese are suffering. There are other hotels on the square and lots of restaurants, which means everything; cabs, buses, a chemist; is pretty well supported.
