We were impressed by the helpfulness of the reception staff. Unfortunately the wifi was expensive, the rooms were basic but the restaurant catered well for my gluten free requirement. The continental breakfast was basic and difficult to find fresh gluten free foods.

After staying in luxurious apartments in the City Centre for a week, we moved to the Boa Vista to be nearer the coast.

Our room was very small and there were not enough pillows. I could not get on the internet, and found the lady on reception to be very unhelpful. The breakfast was fine, nothing special.

The hotels saving grace is the rooftop terrace and pool area, with amazing views. The food in the restaurant is lovely and the barmen are great.

Stayed 3 x nights BB in June 2012 on a business trip.
Breakfast is dreadful - very basic indeed.
Rooms - decor is very dated.
Bed was comfortable.
Rooms were exceptionally clean.
Location is good - upmarket area of Oporto looking onto the promenade with a select number of upmarket bars & restaurants.
Was woken up at 5.30 am on several nights by people banging around the hallways.

Summary: A very basic hotel in a good location. Interiors need modernisation, breakfast was 'youth hostel' standard, basic but clean rooms, nice & friendly staff.

Room Tip: There is several rooms with balconies looking out to sea - these are the best rooms to book.

The main thing to bear in mind with this hotel is its location. It is right on top of the ocean, by the estuary of the Douro, next to the fort of S. João da Foz do Douro. The beach is nearby as well. It is perhaps not entirely ideal if you are relying on public transport (I wasn't), although a taxi to the centre is not expensive and there are regular bus services that will drop you off in the centre in 10-15 minutes.
The rate was reasonable and pretty much what I would have expected.
The room was of a good size and the bed was comfortable. There is a nice rooftop pool with a great sea view and it was in use when I stayed (April), but I didn't have time to try it out.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
There is no free wi-fi and the available wi-fi is quite expensive.
The breakfast selection was good and again pretty much what I would have expected.
Nice gardens nearby (Jardim do Passeio Alegre). I didn't explore the area too much but I was told by knowledgeable friends that there are several good restaurants nearby.
I would happily stay again and I hope to do so later this year.

Room Tip: Rooms available with a sea view, but at an extra cost. Specify when you book your room.

I have stayed there almost 10 times and have found same all the time. I really liked their consistancy in services and quality of stay and food. rooms are really clean, beautiful and larger in compare to other europion 3 star hotels. this hotel is pure value for money. swimming pool on roof is amazing with sea view. searview pool side dining is also a good experience. and the best part is service at every point of purchase weather room service or dining.

Room Tip: sea view rooms are preferable, they have choice for for physically challanged person too which is go...

Good hotel near the ocean.Hotel are fulfiling all demands of standard hotel. Good location, clean rooms, good and pleasent staff. In hotel you can find top roof bar and pool.
Unfortunately I was there in December so I was not able to evaluate how it looks during summer. I think that hotel is good for stay. Unfortunately is little bit far from a center

The Hotel Boa Vista is a decent hotel, about right for its three stars. The room was comfortable enough and breakfast was good (but nothing special). The staff weren't as helpful or accommodating as one might hope for -- one sticking point was the Wifi service (which one must purchase!): I only got reception in the far corner of my room, literally next to the door. Front desk staff was defensive, saying Wifi reception was great everywhere. The rooftop pool provides commanding views of the ocean and adjacent castle, but to get to central Porto, one must plan on transportation.
