“Average quality in the city center”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

The hotel could be described with one word, "average". But comparing to some others 3 stars hotel the price here was higher, still not very expensive.
The location is perfect, 5 min walking to the train station Sao Bento and main square.
The breakfast was quite poor, no standard English breakfast. The room was clean with a bit old furniture. But the bed was excellent. And there was a heater in the room, very useful thing for humid rainy weather. The shower was small, I think it would be not comfortable for tall people. Another thing that disappointed me was WiFi. It is written everywhere that hotel has free wireless internet, but in real it only works in some places. I was able to connect only in the lobby.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to stay.

Went to Porto for a quick 2 day weekend break and was lucky enough to book this lovely, excellent value, very well located hotel.

The high ratings here are well deserved and they are very proud of them too!

The staff were very friendly and happy to give out maps and advice. The barman was very friendly, and the bar is very nice too.

The breakfast buffet is continental but plenty there, and you can make your own orange juice if you want. The rooms were nice, small, but good for sleeping.

The location is excellent – just a couple of minutes down the hill to the riverside, and city centre. Loads of bars and restaurants there, and some great port places across the river.

Porto itself is quite picturesque and parts of the city centre reminded me a bit of Venice.

Hotel da Bolsa is a basic hotel which benefits from very helpful staff and a great location for seeing the city of Porto. The hotel rooms themselves are quite basic but comfortable, but I felt the need to write this review to praise the staff for helping us with our travels, and also for holding onto an item that I had left at the hotel and was not expecting to see again.

The hotel is ideally located just a couple of meters from the river front where all the shops/restaurants and activity is. The room was very clean, well sized bed and functional bathroom. If you are travelling by car there is a public carpark a few meters away and you get a discount from the hotel

All the other reviews already tell you how great the location is, so the only thing I have to add is that if you don't want to pay for a full-on breakfast, go across the street for a pastry and coffee or tea at the Buondi Caffe. The pastries were quite good and inexpensive.

Just returned after staying 5 nights at the Hotel da Bolsa. The hotel is halfway between the Sao Bento metro stop and the Ribeira which allowed easy access to just about everything Porto has to offer. The room was a triple on the second floor (3rd in the US). The beds were firm but manageable. The bathroom was large though the shower/bathtub was narrow, my shoulders touched both the wall and shower door. The breakfast was the same every day: cold cuts, cereals, breads, fruits, yogurt, and do-it-yourself fresh squeezed orange juice (it can take a couple minutes cutting and juicing). The staff was professional and friendly though we did not need any special service. The traffic noise was not too bad though the music and crowd noise from the bar across the street seeped in during Sao Joao festival until 3am. The biggest noise makers during the other days were the seagulls with their constant cawing. We slept with the window open the first night since it was cool outside, but their noise drove us to closing it and running the air conditioning. Never used the elevators but seemed small and slow. The bar was empty the entire time we were there although it seemed pleasant. Overall, I would recommend the hotel due to its location, fair pricing, and cleanliness.

Hotel da Bolsa is only about 10 minutes walk from São Bento Railway station, down Rua das Flores, so it’s not essential to get a taxi if you have smallish bags. There's a cheap student-type bar just around the corner at the bottom of Rua das Flores where you can get a good snack - a beer is 1 Euro there. Locally there are several good restaurants for evening meals. It takes about 10 minutes to walk down the street to be at the riverside - Ribeira - and you can walk over the beautiful Dom Luis Bridge to get to Vila da Gaia, with its Port Houses and great views of Porto. We didn't book breakfast - we just paid the 7 euros each for a buffet breakfast when we fancied one.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. There was good free wifi coverage in our room, and access to a computer with internet and printer in a downstairs lounge. We spent 6 nights there and we would book again.
