“Enjoyable stay”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

The hotel is very modern and clean albeit a little bit sterile. There are several glass elevators in reception or alternatively there is an enclosed one a bit further down the corridor. You will need to use your key card to operate the elevators. We found that our key card didn't work on several occasions for the lift and also for the door to our room. My husband had to keep taking it back to reception until one of the receptionists finally told us to not keep it with our phone as it will cancel it. Rooms are modern with electric blinds that operate along the glass window between the bedroom and the bathroom. There is a bathtub, separate toilet and walk in shower and also quite a powerful hairdryer.

We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel on each day and all was to a high standard. We particularly noticed the good standard of service delivered by the staff in the restaurant. There was a Happy Hour in the hotel bar at 7pm each evening where you could buy 2 glasses of wine for 5 euro. Also if you buy a bottle of wine at dinner and don't finish the whole bottle they will cork it for you and save it until the following evening. There is free wi-fi in the reception/lounge around too so you don't need to stay in your room and pay for it. If you need access to a PC and the internet there are 2 in a room to the left of reception and they're also free to use.

Although the hotel is not in the centre we walked to the promenade (turn left out of the hotel) and we also walked to the botanical gardens. We also visited the Kadoorie Synagogue - Mekor Haim which is within walking distance of the hotel and signposted. This was a fascinating tour and a must do. It's not necessary to be of the Jewish faith to do the tour. There is a plaque on the front gates stating the tour times. Our tour was at 10.30am, just turn up and ring the bell and someone will come out and greet you. Cost is 5 euro per person.

All in all we had an enjoyable stay.

€3 for an hour of poor quality wifi in your room.
€15 per person for breakfast which is good but not worth €15.
€9 for a large beer in the bar? In Paris, fine, in Porto where most large beers come in at under €3? No.
€10 for use of pool/steam room/ sauna/ whirlpools

If you take into consideration that they have a 'Club Level' which you can only get to by being in one of the more expensive rooms you get the feeling that this place is a little bit elitist.

Useful information:
How to get there: From the airport, take the only metro line and travel about 11 stops (25 mins) to the Francos stop. It is an overground station, leave by the exit on the side you are on and keep going straight across the road, through another two crossroads and the Sheraton is on your left. About 300-400m.

The foyer is amazing, the glass lifts are simply stunning. It would take a while to get bored of travelling on them. The staff are very helpful and professional. The deluxe room we stayed in was spacious and very clean. The only faults about the room is the bed was a little hard and the frosted glass bathroom isn't to my taste.

The pool area is nicely designed but not much more on offer than a regular 4* hotel pool/sauna/steam room/whirlpool. There are about 16 motorised comfy loungers that you can use so bring a book if you plan on spending time down there. We didn't avail of any spa treatments.

We ate in the restaurant one night and we found the food suffered from style over substance and was quite expensive for Porto. It is hard to find bad food (just follow the crowds) in Porto. So head into Porto, it will be half the price and twice as tasty.

Travelling into porto isn't too difficult, turn right out of the hotel, walk 400metres to the metro, (cross the tracks) and you are in town in 10-20 mins. There isn't much in the way of restaurants/bars in the vicinity of the hotel.

If you like walking you can walk (about 40 mins (5k)) to the atlantic ocean/beaches from the hotel. There is a pretty nice park there too. Turn left out of the hotel, take the next right onto the main road (Boa Vista) and walk straight for 40 mins. Near the sea you will see a large park on your right which has a nice sandwich bar in one of the corners or continue straight to get to the sea. If you follow the beach around to the left you will eventually (about 2-3k) come across the tram that will take you straight into the centre of Porto. Or grab a bus. Or walk the rest of the way into porto (an extra 3k).It was a hot day so my distances might be a bit out.

The prices in the restaurant/bar/wifi/pool are the only things that stop this from getting a five star review.

Loved Porto. Loved this hotel. Away from the center and the crowds. Club room, modern, well maintained, large and well appointed. Great bed. Good pillows (one foam, one feather per person...), great shower, very quiet. Good breakfast. Attentive Service. Will stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a club room.

I concur with the great comments already made; wonderful staff, spotless room, lovely large bathroom. Club lounge served nice snacks and beverages in the evening & a good breakfast [you may eat in the main restaurant on ground floor but we opted for the quiet & perfectly good lounge].
Certainly would stay here again if I am lucky enough to return to Portugal.

Beautiful modern hotel, gorgeous lobby with a great bar, beautiful rooms, large, modern bathroom + showers, very clean, great amenities, located in a very safe neighborhood (a little far from the center of the city though). The service was great. The wait staff were very polite and the concierge was very helpful. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Try to get an upper level room. I can't think of a bad room at this hotel.

Booked 5 nights here a few weeks back. The hotel is modern, and mirrors properties seen in NA and Asia. It is not terribly central but not too far to use as a base either. The Subway is a 5-8 minute walk / 1.2 E charge away. Not a big deal, even late at night. I left the car in the parkade.
Pros
Clean modern, Excellent AC, Breakfast is extensive, Gym is Great!, Wifi stable. Mgt and staff, from arrival to departure were excellent. They all seem earnestly happy working here.
Negs
They still have smoking at this property, our request to move upon arrival was quickly accommodated. No other issues at all.

For SPG Plat's, breakfast, wifi and parking are complementary, caveat being I did use a suite upgrade cert. The lounge comes fully stocked and is open until 23:00. light snacks were good. If you smoke, there is an exterior balcony from the lounge which proved popular with smokers during our stay.

Firstly on the previous review...there is a wonderful invention called google maps which clearly shows that this hotel is not a city centre hotel, and it doesn't claim to be...but the cost of a taxi into town is between 5 and 8 euros, there is a bus stop 100 yards from the hotel for the wonderfully efficient and regular public transport system and there is a bus stop for the tourist bus circular routes. The beaches are a 5 minute taxi ride away ( c.5euros)

The hotel itself has a decent restaurant, nice bar, fantastic pool and spa area with saunas, steam room, salt room, treatment rooms, relaxation area and large well equipped gym.

Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient and the hotel is immaculately clean.

Rooms are a decent size with nice bathrooms, quiet aircon, mini bar, TV, decent wifi.

All in all a very good hotel. Only one suggestion, in the pool they should mark out a lane for swimmers and and area for kids to splash around in.
