The Hotel da Musica is a spotlessly clean, modern hotel with a fine central location in Porto. It has a charming musical motif that is reflected in the carpeting you walk on as you enter, the decor of the Bar Pavarotti, and even the corridors and the rooms--the proprietors clearly care about music and know something about it (and Porto's Casa da Musica is just around the corner). Everything about the hotel seems to reflect the latest in technology and decor, but that is not always advantageous--for instance, the sink in our bathroom area was so designed as to hold no water, and as to make splashing almost inevitable when the tap was turned on, however carefully. And the shower door was so designed as to make the escape of water on to the bathroom floor inevitable every time it was opened, even though it kept the water from flowing it when closed.
The breakfast buffet was impressively ample, but there seemed to be something wrong with the coffee--at any rate, we both felt somewhat unwell after drinking it. But a most remarkable feature of this hotel is that it can, and does, provide supervised kosher dinners for orthodox Jewish travellers,of good quality and at reasonable cost (a 3-course dinner for two people cost about 45 to 50 euros, not including drinks), and attentively served. This should make it a perfect choice for visitors requiring such service.
The hotel staff are very helpful and polite. They all speak English well, and are sweetly encouraging to guests (like the present writer) learning to speak Portuguese.
