Description: Almanaque is a specialty coffee house and magazine store, born and based in Porto. This new spot in the city of Porto has a lot to offer hosting two peculiar concepts beneath one roof. Almanaque offers a rigorous selection of international magazines for those interested in the field of the arts (from fine arts magazines to architecture, through design, fashion and visual culture). It is also a coffee house committed to offer a delicious high-quality coffee and coffee based drinks on the go.We also offer other specialties besides coffee drinks such as smoothies, wine and homemade pastry accompaniments to die for.It is located downtown east Porto, next to the University of Fine Arts and Public Library and also near hostels and guesthouses.

Almanaque is one of those cases where less is more - where everything seems right, adequate, well (and home) made and charming. The mindset it's grab to go, however you are very welcome to sit in the middle wooded counter and enjoy a charming coffee room that shares place with a couple of shelfs which have several trendy magazines like the Little White Lies, Esquire, AR, Milk or Foam. The coffee it's pretty good and the prices are quite nice (a little higher than the average and traditional portuguese coffee but still affordable and cheaper than coffee shops like Starbucks or Costa). The bakery seems very homemade and what pleases me it's the fact that they don't have many options - they got enough and it's really better a fewer but delicious range of cakes than the otherwise.

I really recommend Almanaque!

During a two week driving tour of Portugal I searched every day for good coffee. I found it twice: at the cafe in Villa do Bispo and here at Almanaque. Almanaque strives to be a cute, modern, American-style indie coffee bar that would be a perfect fit in Chicago or Portland or San Francisco. And it succeeds (it's connected to a bike repair shop!). I made two visits and my americanos were excellent both times. My amigos went with cappuccinos, which were also excellent. But the coffee and snacks are only half -- less than half, really -- of the story. While Almanaque has a great product, it has an even better owner, the unbelievably delightful Joana. Almanaque is a labor of love for Joana and her best friend, who together opened the storefront only a month ago, and the love certainly shines through in every aspect of Joana's service and conversation. In my hometown of Washington, DC, I would call Joana a breath of fresh air, but in Porto, where everyone is charming and friendly, it is better to say that she is a particularly lovely breeze in the warm wind of Portuguese hospitality. Spend some time talking with her! For me and my friends, this was one of the best experiences in Portugal. Last tip: Joana's friend provides the homemade baked goods on display, and you should go for them. No Starbucks-style crap here. Joana and her friend are committed to beta testing recipes from the wheelhouse of an American grandmother, and they seem to be getting them exactly right. I recommend the banana bread. Obrigado e boa sorte, Joana!

My friends and I stumbled in on this place during our visit to Porto and we were so pleased to find a charming little coffee/magazine shop served by the lovely Joana. Joana and her best friend opened this place only a month ago, and are very committed to friendly service and quality coffee. We ordered up some Americanos (abatonados) and capuccinos two days in a row and were very satisfied. She also was eager to give us a free slice of the banana bread to get a true American's approval and three out of three Americans voted it DELICIOUS. Stop on by and enjoy a hot cup of coffee, browse a magazine, and have a good conversation with Joana- you won't be disappointed!
