“A must do when you visit Porto ”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

Linha22 is the best hotel you can find! The rooms are a bit small, but the rest of the hotel make you forget that. The location is superb, close to the main square and only 5 minutes walk to the river. The owners are very helpful and hospitable. On every Saturday there is a traditional tram tour with wine tasting and fado. When you have the possibility a must do

The location is superb: just in the center of town near the main spots and night spots. The staff was nice. The room is small but very well decorated. This is a very pleasant hostel with a original decoration and ambiance. The hostel is closed at sunday with no staff, which is good as we could left our luggage at the room until the afternoon and come back to pick it up at that time.
For us it was not a problem, but if you care about the noise in the street during the night, that will be a problem, as the street has a lot of night activity (at least on saturday night, when we stayed there) and is really noisy even with the window shutters closed. The hostel is closed at sunday with no staff, which is bad because we couldn't enjoy it on sunday.
The wifi was not working.

Room Tip: If there are rooms facing the backstreet, try to get it. It should be a lot less noisy.

Firstly our reception was excellent, a very warm welcome. Whilst shortly waiting for our room (we arrived early) we were presented a glass of fine Port wine. The host was entertaining and enthousiastic. The rooms are situated on the 1st to 4th floor of a cosy winebar / restaurant. We had to walk our way up to the third floor by using steep staircases, which is no problem for us. The staff offered to take your luggage up (using a winch).

We stayed in one of the bigger (though still small) fresh-looking and nicely decorated rooms at the front of the B&B, overlooking Ruas dos Clerigos. At night the street becomes occupied by youth. By closing the shutters most of the noise can be kept out, but when the temprature rises it can become a bit muggy. The rooms at the backside are more quiet but even smaller then the front rooms. The mattrasses are of a good quality. In the end we managed to sleep very well.

The bathroom was nearly clean on arrival, but housekeeping did forget a few minor things. Wifi did not work on the 3rd and 4th floor (not mentioned by us to the owner). There is nof staff available between 11 pm and 10.30 am the next morning. On Sundays both bar and B&B are closed which means that guests can enter the building at the rear of the hotel. The owner is available in case of emergency.

Even though we are personally not into touristic entertainment, the owner pursuaded us to take the exclusive Saturdayafternoon Tour on tram Lihna 22. On board a (well performing) Fado singer and her band, Port Wines and snacks to taste. We also did get to see a beautiful part of Porto and very much enjoyed every bit of the trip.

The area offers nice lunchrooms, bars, local restaurants and shopping area. Since Lihna 22 is situated in the old city center, you'll instantly become part of Porto's daily life.

On departure we were surprised with a nice glass of the owner's favorite wines and a few short stories including his own life story. After 5 very, very enjoyable days at the Linha 22 we had to return home. Even though a few things could be improved we would recommend Lihna 22 to everyone without hesitation.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front are bigger but a bit noisier.
