“great hotel, definitely go back”
Reviewed 2 June 2011

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Eurostar Des Artes hotel. It was lovely and clean, with nice decor and comfortable rooms. The funiture was modern and the rooms well equipped - the showers were very good, with plenty of hot water and good pressure. The aircon was very good - my only slight bug-bear was that the aircon couldn't be left on whilst you were out, so the room could get quite warm if you'd been out all day, but 10 minutes with aircon on full blast soon solved that.

The reception staff were very helpful and made some great restaurant recommendations - I particularly liked the Assador Tipico which does massive, great tasting steaks. True the hotel bar seemed to be unmanned early evening, but that was soon remedied by a quick word with reception. The bar and terrace was a nice relaxing place to be, although usually a bit on the quiet side - definitely more one for a drink before or after a night out, rather than somewhere to spend the evening.

Hotel gives free wi-fi if you ask the reception staff for the password and I found this always accessible both in the lobby and in my room.

The hotel was in a great location, not too far from the metro and easily accessible by bus. Hotel staff provided clear directions to all the key sights in Porto and free map that was easy to navigate by. True it was a bit of a climb back up the hill at the end of the night, but after a few ports that didn't seem too much hassle.

Food at the hotel was ok - not sure it was worth €12 when there are so many great little cafes around porto - I particularly liked Confeitaria de Bolhao near the old market in the commercial centre (about 15 to 20 minute walk from the hotel) although several of those near to the hotel were also pretty good.

Overall a very pleasant stay in a lovely hotel in a great city.

Travelled with a group of friends and stayed at the Eurostar Des Artes for 4 nights on a city-break.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of May and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
The staff were very friendly, in particular Raúl who was extremely helpful making us feel very comfortable at all times.
Breakfast was excellent with plenty to choose from.
The room was very clean and very comfortable.
Overall, it was a great choice and I would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody who wishes to visit the charming and historical city of Porto.

This hotel is wonderful as the other reviews state. We didn't eat here so I can't rave about the food, although the staff recommended a local casual restaraunt down the road that was awesome. The rooms were clean and big enough for the two of us but I am not sure and entire family would fit.
I would like to complain that the beds felt like we were sleeping on concrete. I have never been so happy to get out of bed in the morning as I have in this hotel. I also found it odd that they didn't provide shampoo or face clothes in the bathroom.
The hotel is 10 minute walk to the city center and 25 walk to the river and 30 minutes to the port cellers. Our room was in the old building but overlooked the roof top terrace and backyards so we were not bothered by the cars and noise, actaully we got to listen to a cat and rooster for a little bit on afternoon!
I would come back here next time if I needed a trustworthy hotel and I would feel comfortable recommending it to a friend.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the restaurant patio

Everyone has different standards when it comes to hotels, so finding one based on recommendations can be hit or miss. The Eurostars Das Artes was excellent in my humble opinion. Why? It is spotlessly clean. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The rooms are modern and well maintained. Breakfast was abundant and the dining area (for breakfast) was pleasant. The price seemed very reasonable. It is not the Ritz Carlton, of course. But if you are just looking for a comfortable place to rest your weary head after a day of sight-seeing, wake up to a nice breakfast, get tips from the front desk, and not make a big hole in your travel budget, then this is the perfect place. Parking in Porto is tough, but the hotel offers parking for a price. We just left our car in their lot and walked everywhere. It is situated quite a ways up from the river, so you will likely end your day with a healthy climb up the hill -- you will sleep better! I would go back to this hotel any time!

A very comfortable stay in nicely appointed and clean room, good breakfast. Not right in the centre, but still walkable. Great friendly local restaurant Ze de Braga for simple and cheap fare - just 100m down the road.

Good value for money. Would choose again.
