“Very Nice Hotel In Porto”
Reviewed 20 October 2011

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice and chic this hotel is. There is a nice area off of the lobby to read or get some fresh air. The hotel is very clean although there was a bit of a grease or solvent smell in the hallway (our room was adjacent to the elevator) which was a bit strange. The room was spacious and very well appointed. The location of the hotel is very good and within walking distance of many sites. The front desk was very friendly and helpful unlike some of the other hotels that we stayed at on our trip.

The hotel's lobby is simple but beautiful, the reception clerks are all very friendly and professional. All of them were really helpful during my 3 night stay.

The bathroom is classy and the rooms are not overdecorated but really pleasant. The towels and bed linen provided are of real high quality, 5 stars standard.

The breakfast is definetely the plus of the hotel. I've stayed in four diferent 4 stars around Portugal and Eurostars das Artes had the greatest breakfast I had during my visit. 12 (twelve!!!) diferent kinds of fruit each morning, 5 or 6 kinds of real fruit juice. A plenty variety of breads, cheese (6 kinds!), ham, jamon. Also there was a lot of hot options.

A recent review said the breakfast is a little cantina style and I was wondering that this opinion must be based on the lack of service on tables during breakfast and I wouldn't expect nothing diferent from a 4 stars hotel. The food provided is of extremely high quality and there's no other place near the hotel where you can have such great variety.

The only small downside is the seven steps to reach the reception from the street level as I didn't see any doorman or bell boy.

Room Tip: The rooms located in the anex building are bigger and maybe more silent but I didn't have any pr...

We stayed in Eurostar Des Artes for 4 nights during the peak season.
Overall the feeling is about a good level of service, good value for money, cleaness and professionalism.
A bit noisy the room on the main street, but spaceful: no view at all, so could be better to apply and ask for an inner one.
Decent and fresh breakfast. It's 20min on walk from the city centre, or a 5€ taxi ride.

My friend and I decided to stay at the Eurostars Das Artes given the location and the price of the hotel. I am glad we did because the location is perfect. It is within easy walking distance to the things that we want to see and do. There are a lot of nice restaurants nearby to the hotel as well. The tourism info center is within 10 mins walk from the hotel and not far from there, you can easily catch the hop on hop off buses that will take you around to the many different routes depending on what you want to see and do. There is also free wifi with the hotel but you will need to ask for a password from the reception which is easy enough to do. We didn't organize any of our tours with the hotel. We did it with the tourism info center but the only tour we did was to sample port wines with 3 of the major port wine cellar. It was actually ok. If you ended taking and paying for the day passes for the hop on and hop off buses, your ticket actually allows you to take the public buses as well which does come in quite handy. Also if you are flying into Porto, there is a metro right outside the airport and it is quite easy and inexpensive to take the metro right into the city center. All up I had a good experience staying at this hotel and would stay there again if I ever visit Porto again.

Booked and confirmed for a premium price, was a double for single use with complementary fruit basket and water as welcome. What I got was a sticky tiny single room, beneath the roof. Quite very noisy as it was facing to the street side traffic and loud shouting outside. As a 3 day stay, I asked for a possibility to change to any room at the back side where the majority of their spaces are located. Any attempt was bounced back for the next day, as they informed they are full. In addition any clarification talks where lost in space as their partner doing in booking seem not responsible too. So I felt left at front desk like fool, while at same time other new guest where checking in for the my original booked room.

Location:
Seems not with best reputation, is too a little remote to the old city and should be for an foreigner difficult to find. In the street many houses are closed or not in use. However it seems some young local designer did grab this chance, to get some cheap space and run some nice shops. Be informed, you need a second look to discover as located mostly in the backyards.

Hotel:
The place itself seem maintained however some wear is getting visible. Some facilities I missed to rate it as a real 4 star. Breakfast is a little cantina style due to the high frequentation. Food ok, but any outside cafe may able to beat the quality. Staff seemed a little overstressed with the high amount of visitors. Bar and food prices in room are at high end of a 4 Star or a reasonable 5 Star hotel.

All in all the hotel is clean in efficient place. However from my experience efficiency must more be understood for the company running the hotel. As well I may an too an unlucky proof when good ratings here will tempt you to pay a little more, making the hotel management to forget they have still a guests.

My advise do not pay here in advance and consider hotel here with less good ratings will have not have to fear competition with this place.

Room Tip: No advance payment and no booking of rooms located a front of street

After spending hours looking at hotels in porto, we eventually chose the eurostars, and how glad we did. This hotel is well located and in easy reach of the sights. The hotel was very clean, the staff were lovely, polite and helpful. The buffet breakfast was good, with a good choice. The only problem was the hot food could of been hotter, but we brits often find that when we are abroad. If we return to porto for another short break, then we would look to book this hotel again

We stayed here in mid-September for two nights.

The hotel (while not much to look at on the outside) is beautiful on the inside. The rooms are a decent size, very clean and very modern. The beds were firm but fairly comfortable. Wi-fi was free in the rooms which was a welcome change (most places we stayed in Portugal required payment for the wi-fi).

Only drawbacks were the location (about a 10 -15 minute walk to city centre - and 20 - 25 minute walk to the waterfront) and the staff. No real complaints about the staff, just that they were not overly friendly upon check in or check out (the only time we dealt with them).

We felt like we got very good value for the money, and as long as you are ok with the location, this is a great place to stay.
