“Great location”
Reviewed 15 April 2010

This hotel has the best possible location - everything is close - if you are coming from the airport or the main train station, you have to catch metro to Trinidade station - it's 3 minutes walk from the hotel. To the most of the sigths you can go by walk and there is no need to spend the money on the public transport.
Rooms are very clean, but old furnished and you can hear all sounds from rooms around you. If you are just looking for the room to sleep and take a shower, this is a great choice. They also have a good breakfast. If you chose this hotel book it early enough because few days before it's to expensive.

I went with my boyfriend to this small hotel in Porto for a weekend. We enjoyed the city a lot and we chose this place because has a special offer (57 euro) for San Valentine's weekend and is perfectly situated. For that cost we had a superior room with a balcony viewing to the PlaÇa dos Aliados, in the city centre, and breakfast included.
We arrived to Porto by car, and there is free parking during the weekend in the street of the hotel.

The superior room, it was not so superior, as it is really small and has no a lot of space to move in there; the bathroom was OK but I did not like the curtain for the shower.
The breakfast was quite better that I had imagine, continental buffet with fruit, juices, bread, croassants, cheese, ham, marmelade, jam, butter, cereals and coffee. Enough to repeat and it was tasty.

The normal cost for this hotel is 97 euro and to be honest and I would haver never payed that for it, but it is perfect for 57 euro, that was the cost that we payed and for a weekend but not for long periods.

Stayed here for three nights on the recommendation of a work colleague (room 401). I can more or less agree with other reviewers in that the hotel is fantastic given the low prices - we payed 50 EUR per night for a twin room. The main advantages are the location, the attentiveness of the staff and the tasty breakfast with a view. The less impressive aspects were the fact you couldn't open the curtains properly and the need for some modernisation in the room (especially in the bathroom). However, if you're coming for a sightseeing trip, you won't spend much time in the room. And bearing in mind this is 'pension' style accommodation, it represents an excellent economical option.

the vera cruz is a lovely building in a great location and we thought that a room on the top floor would be quiet and away from it all we had room 704 which was great huge bed, seperate sitting room and reasonable bathroom even a small balcony although no views .However the noise from room next door sounded as though a new room was being constructed, the plumbing particulary I think the pipes must have been in line with our room. we were not next to the lift but could hear clearly every time it went up and down, doors banging, etc
On the up side the staff were great very polite welcoming and helpful and the breakfast on the roof terrace was very pleasant nothing lavish but good coffee and fresh bread to set us up for the day oporto is a good place to visit and we had a lovely time lots of good food in the nice restaurents down at the river and very rea;xing walks around the old town.

We stayed 3 nights at the hotel. It was in a good area for sightseeing, with good access to the metro. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but very small. Our room had a balcony but unfortunately the heavy curtains over the window were hung in such a way that they couldn't be opened and therefore the room was very dark! Our bathroom left a lot to be desired unfortunately, there was a slight leak to the toilet which was 'fixed' by the management with a rolled up towel around the base. We had no bath and the shower was very small and basic, though to be fair, the bathrooms in our friends rooms were fine. tThe staff were very pleasant and the breakfast, the usual continental selection, good.

We stayed only 2 nights, but we were happy to be settled at that hotel!
Early morning we reached the hotel and reception explained us that check in starts after 1.00p.m. nevertheless we left our suitcases downfloor(kindly) and spent out free time outside.
Location - really best ever.2 min from hotel to metro station,15 min to the famous Douro river.
Breakfast - by selection: tea, coffee,water, juice,milk,cereals,ham,cheese,butter,jam,honey,scones.
Room was fine enought but the rolled dust was present inside the wardrobe.TvVset, air condition, big sunny bathroom and the bath!
Price & location & reception were wonderful.

Great location for anybody thinking about staying in the centre of Port.
The hotel could do with a makeover, however, we only slept in the room - the rest of the time we spent in and around Porto.
To be honest it is classed as a 3 *, but could not be more than 2*. The room was a little bit dark, with dark curtains and carpets, but at least the bed was a double and surprisingly, comfortable !! The saving grace was the breakfast - nothing more than the usual continental, but plenty of it - tinned fruit, selection of breads and croissants, ham, cheese, yogurts, juices and tea / coffee. It is on the 8th floor, and gives good views over parts of the city. The 2 girls in the breakfast room were very friendly, as were the reception staff who all spoke excellent English - this is a bonus for us, as we try to communicate in the host language, but always encounter problems !
The hotel, as I have said is bang in the centre, with plenty of cafes and bars in the locality - the metro is literally 30 seconds away, and is very handy for seeing most of the city.
Overall, I think that I would choose a slightly more upmarket hotel next time, but for the price and the location it was good value - hope that this helps.
