We really wanted to like Tapabento. Made a reservation two weeks before we arrived in Porto. Food was just ok. We both ordered the Cod with crunchy onion. Cod was old. Had a funky fish taste and chewed like rubber. Very expensive for what it was too. We each had a salad, which was good, one glass of wine and the cod. Total without tip was 70 euros. The price would have been fine if the food was good.

Based on reviews from tripadvisor, we decided to go here.

We did not make a reservation, but we were very lucky that other people did not show so we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table.

We were welcomed by a very friendly woman, who makes you feel at home . But all the other staff was also friendly.

We ordered several dishes to share: bruscetta, tortilla, mushrooms, sausage, tuna tataki and empenadias. Each dish was very rich with flavors and tasted very good.

We ordered 1 dessert to share (citrus flavors), normally I do not like sour desserts, but this plate was so well balanced and refreshing .

We were very happy that we went here and Will recommend this place !

My wife and I booked Tapabento near São Bento train station a while in advance for a Friday evening. We loved it the first night so booked it there and then for the next night.

Both nights we were seated upstairs on a table of four so we had a bit of space. Service both nights was friendly. Over the course of both dinners we had:

Starters
- the burrata salad with balsamic and honey, very delicious
- the razor clams in garlic, very garlicky but delicious
- the tuna tataki with wasabi and an apple ice cream, delicious
- smoked salmon with what was like a burned salt and dill cream, delicious

Mains
- duck with a sweet potato purée, carrots and a foie gras sauce, very tasty
- the aged entrecôte steak with king oyster mushroom, banana chips and two sauces: one garlic and one port. The meat of the steak was delicious but a little fatty in places
- the seafood curry - monkfish, other white fish, large shrimp, razor clams, mussels and clams in a curried both served with jasmine rice. Whilst not bad, certainly not as good as the other food on offer
- the 72° cod served on a bed of various vegetables - courgette, brocolli etc - with crispy onions and a herbed oil. It was tasty but not great.

Desserts
- the citrus dessert. I had this the first night and thought it was decent whereas my wife had it the second night and thought it was the best dessert she’d ever had. It was a mild citrus flavoured firm jelly sphere with coconut at the bottom, surrounded by a frozen kumquat, a grapefruit sorbet, chewy nougat pieces, popping candy, orange citrus sauce, a tiny sponge and marshmallow. In summary, various citrus flavours with various textures.
- a black cherry tart topped with various fruit and a tayberry sorbet, tasty
- peanut foam - a cup with peanut ice cream at the bottom with cream, sauce and peanut pieces, a little sickly but tasty.

The cocktails are very boozy.

Overall fantastic food and great service. We highly recommend. Best to book a table in advance by email.

We‘ve been here 3 times since 2016 and never had a disappointing experience. There is always a warm welcome, no matter how busy it is and the food is simply amazing. I would recommend coming here at least once even when you are on a budget, prices went up a little bit but it’s still amazingly cheap for the quality you get. Needless to say this is our go to when we are in Porto. Always make a reservation for this place, if you don’t they will always try to fit you in somewhere but it can take hours on a busy night.

We first stopped by without a reservation, and since the wait would’ve been long, we opted to make a reservation for lunch for the next day. We (2) shared the fish soup, the potato tortilla and the prawn risotto. Everything was delicious. The staff was particularly friendly. The hostess from the first afternoon was kind enough to recommend the restaurant down the street (Rápido) for a quick lunch. Highly recommended!
