The hotel is located within an historic stationery store, and decor throughout the hotel reflects this heritage. The room was spacious and had adequate storage space for clothes and luggage. There is a table and two chairs at one end. The bathroom is small and storage space for toiletries is limited to a small slotted rack beneath the pedestal sink (apparently I have a lot of toiletries because there is never enough space). I found the bed somewhat lumpy and uncomfortable but my husband was fine with it.
The dining room within the hotel serves an excellent and extensive breakfast. We had dinner here one night and were very pleased with the service, food quality and presentation.

As you can tell by the title the location is perfect, at the bottom of Rua das Flores (about 5 mins down hill walk from the train station) and about 5 minute walk up hill from the Riberia.

You are literally in the middle of this beautiful city full of things to see and do, and surrounded by many great bars and restaurants. But you are also far enough away from the river to have peace and quiet.

We had a superior room which was a decent size with a huge bed. Also the bathroom was huge with a bath and shower (separate toilet)

Our room was on the 1st floor partially overlooking the square, and we didn't have any noise disturbance at all.

The only negative is that the room was very warm, but maybe that is because we couldn't work out how to control the aircon

Would I return to Porto, yes it is amazing city would I stay at the A.S. 1829, yes, especially for the location.

A hotel with a beautifully boutique interior - yes.
Free glass of port to welcome you - yes.
Also a complimentary pastel de nata? - yes!
Friendly multilingual staff - definitely.
Good quality breakfast included - yes, small but tasty range of hot and cold foods every day even in the last half hour before the end of service - yes.
Interesting, spacious rooms - yes.
Decent shower - also a yes!
Three free bottles of water in the room every day - yes.
Fast free Wi-fi - yes.
Handy location for both air / train transfer and tourism in the city - yes.
Excellent restaurants nearby - we are self-professed “foodies” and found 4050 and Traça directly opposite the hotel served fantastic food in busy, professional atmospheres.

Quiet from street noise - er... not guaranteed. We stayed Monday to Friday with a room looking up the Rua da Flores. Monday to Wednesday nights were so quiet we couldn’t believe anything negative anyone had written in this respect. On Thursday night we went out for a meal and returned earlier as we had an early flight on Friday. We spent until 11pm listening to some girl singing along to a guitar - or maybe a karaoke machine - in the street below. She spent a good two hours murdering various 70s and 80s chart songs whilst drunken women danced around her screaming shrieks of delight.

Booking for mid week - go for it; this is an excellent hotel.

Booking for a weekend - you might need to bring your best “drunk dancing in the street shoes” so you can join in - or ear plugs, whichever suits you best.

We loved this hotel. Perfect location, clean modern rooms, beautiful plaza right outside of hotel. We had breakfast included and it was very good way to start our day. We also had dinner in the restaurant at the hotel one evening and it was very good. There is also a great restaurant right up the street "Cantina" had wonderful food we very much enjoyed.
Loved Porto great for a weekend. Hotel is located half way to the river and halfway to the top of the hill.

Room tip: Rooms were very quiet. We had one overlooking the plaza and one overlooking the street.

We stayed for a week, our room was nice but tiny toilet/shower room and then the sink was in the bedroom. The shower was good though, very powerful. Our outlook was a wall and no balcony but at least it was quiet. The staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. Good refreshments daily replenished and the room was cleaned to an immaculate standard daily. Comfy bed and liked having a separate table and chairs. Opted for breakfast one morning which was very nice and good choices available. The reception staff booked us a yellow bus tour which included a tour of Calem Port House and river cruise, well worth doing to get your bearings more than anything. The only downside was not having an area to sit and relax other than your room which us why we can't give 5 stars as thought there was a bar area to sit in. Good location, everything in walking distance. Please send our thanks to the staff, very enjoyable stay.
